Saturday, Fishers and Westfield took their Hoosier Crossroads Conference battle to Kokomo for Basketball Day in Indiana.
Senior Justin Long scored seven of the first 10 points for Fishers. Long had a great first quarter as he tallied 10 points. Behind his production, Fishers grabbed a 17-13 lead.
After only scoring two points in the first quarter, Westfield's leading scorer Braden Smith scored five of the first seven points for the Shamrocks in the second. With Smith scoring, Westfield pulled within 24-23 at the half.
Westfield's Camden Simons scored the first bucket of the second half to put the Rocks up 25-24. Fishers sophomore Jeff Simmons didn't have his best game, but he was able to kickstart a run. His bucket off a feed from Dominic Castellani started an 8-0 Fishers spurt. Charlie Smith capped the run with an and-one.
The Rocks were down but not out. Benji Welch converted at the basket then Smith hit a shot cutting the Fishers lead to 32-29. The run continued into the fourth quarter. Smith scored a quick five points sandwiched by scores from Matthew Penley and Welch. In total, it was a 13-0 stint that put Westfield up six.
With Fishers down, Long reemerged for the Tigers. He took over the game. He went scoreless in the middle two quarters after scoring 10 in the first. Long scored 10 of the last 11 points for Fishers. He gave the Tigers the lead with 1:56 left in the game, and Fishers held the lead from there.
Long finished with 20 points. Charlie Smith added seven points and five rebounds. Alex Szilagyi had six points. Jeff Simmons tallied four points and seven rebounds.
Braden Smith led Westfield with 16 points and five rebounds. Benji Welch had eight, while Nic DePasquale had seven points and four rebounds.
