After beating Ben Davis on Friday night, Cathedral travelled to Fort Wayne on Saturday to play Snider. It was an entertaining game that came down to the wire. (Pictured: Tayshawn Comer)

Cathedral had a quick start as junior Vincent Brady had a steal and layup on the first possession then Jalen Johnson knocked down two threes. The Irish were up 8-0 with a blink of the eye. Snider didn’t stay down for long as Michael Eley and Dillon Duff forced the Panthers back into it. Eley and Duff scored nine of Snider’s 11 first quarter points.

Freshman Jaron Tibbs scored to open the second period scoring for Cathedral. After that, Snider went on an 8-0 run as Jade Moore, Aidan Lambert, and Eley scored. The game swung back to Cathedral’s favor as Tibbs, Tayshawn Comer, and Pete Moe became a problem for Snider. Those three scored the first 15 Cathedral points of the stanza. Tibbs had 10 first half points.

Duff and Eley tried to keep Snider within striking distance, but the duo didn’t get much help. They scored 20 of the 29 first half points. Duff and Eley were also 7-12 from the field while the rest of Snider was 4-11.

The Cathedral lead hovered around nine points for most of the third quarter. With 1:24 left, Isaac Farnsworth drilled a triple off a feed from Duff. After the Irish came up empty on a couple of possessions, Duff tipped in a missed Snider shot to pull the Panthers within four.

That excitement didn’t last long for Snider as Comer closed the quarter with an and-one. To begin the fourth, Comer and freshman Jake Davis made three free throws to push Cathedral’s lead back to eight points. But Eley took over from there. He scored the next eight for Snider to make it a two-point game.

Cathedral shot the bonus for the final 10:30 of the game, and the Irish took advantage of it. They shot 17 free throws in the second half. After Eley cut Cathedral’s lead to two, there weren’t many empty offensive trips for the Irish. Moe, Brady, and Comer combined to score on four of five Cathedral possessions. That gave the Irish a 10-point cushion.

Once again, Snider clawed back into the game. Cathedral helped with four turnovers in the final three minutes, but Duff and Farnsworth took advantage of it. Duff had an and-one with 30 seconds left to make it a three-point game.

After Jake Davis made both free throws for Cathedral, Farnsworth knocked down a three from the top of the key. It was a two-point game with 15 seconds left, but Brady made two more clutch free throws for the Irish.

Duff scored with a couple seconds left, but Cathedral didn’t in-bounds the ball since Snider was out of timeouts.

Cathedral walked away a 73-71 winner.

Despite the competitive game, Snider never led.

Tayshawn Comer led the Irish with 19 points and five rebounds. Vincent Brady had 16 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Pete Moe tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Jaron Tibbs finished with 10. Jalen Johnson and Jake Davis each had six points. Ryan Trusler added four points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Dillon Duff led Snider with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He was 9-11 from the charity stripe. Michael Eley had 22 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Isaac Farnsworth recorded 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor. Elijah Wimby had four steals.
