Floyd Central and Jeffersonville match-up in the first game Friday night at Seymour. The Highlanders took an early lead and never surrendered it.
Floyd Central started quickly behind senior forward Grant Gohmann. He scored on the first Highlander possession then created a steal and pulled down a rebound. Seconds after a defensive rebound, Gohmann drilled a three-pointer. It was 7-2 in a flash.
Jeffersonville had a couple of turnovers, but the Red Devils weren’t playing poorly. Tre Coleman was aggressive around the basket. Darin Starks hit a couple of shots, but there was no slowing down Floyd Central.
Floyd Central had an effective field goal percentage of 71 in the first half. The Highlanders aren’t a high scoring team, but they were able to put up points since every shot was going down. Floyd Central racked up 37 first half points and led by 14.
The shooting only slowed slightly for the Highlanders in the second half. Gohmann scored the first four second half points for FC. Brady Moore had a couple of scores inside, and Jake Heidbreder was scoring and distributing. Too many things were clicking for Floyd Central to give Jeffersonville a chance.
Jeffersonville guard Caleb Mason was a bright spot. He scored 17 points on 5-9 three-point shooting. Jacob Jones was solid and added some late points, but the Red Devils were never able to make a run in the second half.
