Although a formality, the IHSAA has cancelled the 2020 boys' basketball state tournament. 64 sectional champions were crowned on March 7, 2020, but the regional stage was never played. It's the first time the boys basketball tournament has been cancelled.
Since 1911, there has been a boys' basketball state champion in Indiana. There have been delays and postponements before but never a cancelation. The Corona Virus has flipped the country upside down, and high school were a casualty of that. There were ideas of squeezing the games in, but all schools are out of classrooms until, at least, May 1. It wouldn't make sense to play basketball when classes weren't meeting.
Official statement from the IHSAA
Although it is disappointing for remaining teams, this does bring closure to the season. That being said, there will always be a debate about which teams would have titles. It was shaping up to be a great three rounds of basketball at all classes.
