Right now, most of the country is seeing the destruction of the COVID-19, but the Lawrence North basketball community has been devastated by it this week. Lawrence North assistant coach Jim DeSalle died on Wednesday. Over the weekend, LN superfan Larry Rush died from the virus.
DeSalle did a lot of the behind the scenes stuff the LN program. He helped with the stats; DeSalle was often either keeping the stats or helping track the action for a manager. He was always busy doing or tracking down something at Lawrence North practices, but that didn't stop him from telling a story or asking about your life. DeSalle genuinely seemed to care about everyone.
I loved every one of his stories, no matter how many times I heard them. This year I’d sit with him during the closing minutes of practice and looked forward to just being around him. I’m torn up, and can’t imagine his family, long time friends, and students. Prayers for them!

I didn't know Larry Rush personally, but he was at all of the Lawrence North games. Kyle Neddenriep of the Indy Star wrote about Rush's death.
Along with the deaths, another longtime assistant coach Jim Stanbrough has been diagnosed with the disease. His son, Jake, announced on Twitter that his father had contracted the virus last week. His status has not been updated.
Outside of the coaching staff, Christopher Gunn, father of LN guard C.J. Gunn, was also diagnosed with COVID-19 last week. It appears that he is on the road to a recovery.
Surgeon General Jerome Adams called Indianpolis an emerging hotspot for the COVID-19. With one program being hit so hard, it's easy to see why that's the case.
