The 2020 Mr. Basketball has been awarded to Bloomington South’s Anthony Leal. Leal is the all-time leading scorer at Bloomington South and led the Panthers to a 26-0 before the tournament’s cancelation.
Earlier in the week, the Indy Star announced the finalists for the award – Leal, Dre Davis, Trey Galloway, Tony Perkins, and Johnell Davis.
Leal is signed with Indiana University. That is three straight Mr. Basketballs to play at Indiana – Romeo Langford, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Leal. He is the second winner from Bloomington South. He joins 2009 winner Jordan Hulls.
Leal had great high school career and capped it with a perfect record as a senior. He averaged 18.2 points per game for a balanced Bloomington South team. The Panthers destroyed many opponents which put Leal on the bench for many second half minutes throughout the season.
Indiana Basketball Source was on-hand to watch Leal's signature performance of the season. Against Silver Creek, he carried Bloomington South with 23 points in the first half. That half was the best I've seen Leal play. He was attacking off the dribble, hitting threes, and finishing in traffic. With the game tied, Leal drilled a three-pointer as time expired to give Bloomington South the 69-66 win. Here's the full recap.
