(Brian Waddell continued his hot start to his senior season)
Friday night, No. 2 Carmel took care of Noblesville with its suffocating defense.
Early on, the Millers looked up to the challenge. EJ Smith and Luke Almodovar knocked down threes to take an early lead. Throughout the game, Noblesville was locked in, but Carmel's air-tight defense and efficient offense were too much.
With 6:32 left in the half, Noblesville's Aaron Fine made a three. That was the last time that the Millers scored in the half. Carmel used a balanced attack of Brian Waddell, Pete Suder, and Conner Gioia. Waddell's reverse dunk in the open court started Carmel's 11-0 run.
Turnovers, specifically offensive fouls, limited Noblesville's offense. Both teams were called for numerous offensive fouls, but Noblesville had the majority of them. For the game, Noblesville had turnovers on 43 percent of its offensive possessions. It's impossible to beat Carmel while doing that. The Greyhounds scored 26 points off the Noblesville turnovers.
In the third, Waddell helped put the game away. He buried a couple of threes in the period and scored 10 points in the frame to extend Carmel's lead.
After an average start, Carmel's offense started to click in the second half. There were more transition buckets and clean looks in the half court after the break. Suder carved up the Noblesville defense with his passing in the second half. He finished with seven assists.
Carmel won going away, 64-36. Waddell led all scorers with 21 points. Suder had 13 points, seven assists, and five steals. Freshman Aaron Fine led Noblesville with eight points.
