(Connor Essegian had 32 points in the loss)
Indiana Basketball Source was on hand to see NECC and sectional foes Central Noble and Westview met up Saturday night in Emma with both ranked in this week’s 2A poll. A balanced effort which saw four players score in double figures allowed Westview to hold off a second half rally and score an important conference victory.
The Warriors showcased their depth as seven players put their names in the scoring column in the first half of the game. Meanwhile, a concerted defensive effort forced several Central Noble turnovers, and the Cougars struggled to find anyone to help their junior star Connor Essegian, who accounted for 12 of Central Noble's 15 points at halftime.
The Westview lead peaked at 34-19 early in the third period. A Ryan Schroeder three-point play with just under five minutes left in the period gave Central Noble just their third player in the scoring column. Westview's balance, however, allowed them to maintain a dozen point advantage heading into the fourth.
Essegian would heat up in the fourth, hitting four triples on his way to 16 points in the quarter. Westview would counter with threes from Brady Yoder that kept the Cougars at bay. Central Noble would get one chance to tie the game with under 30 seconds remaining, but Logan Gard was unable to convert at the rim, and Westview would seal the game at the foul line.
Mason Yoder led four Warriors in double figures with 13 points. Drew Litwiller added 12 while Luke Miller and Brady Yoder each scored 11. Essegian finished with a game-high 32 points, while Ryan Schroeder was the only other Cougar with more than five points, as he finished with ten points and nine boards.
