Homestead raced out to an early advantage and never looked back in a decisive conference road win at Bishop Luers on Friday night.
Fletcher Loyer led the Spartans with 30 points while
Luke Goode added 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. Bishop Luers was paced by
Naylon Thompson's 13 points.
It looked bleak from the onset for the host Knights, as Homestead raced out to a 10-0 start in just over two minutes. Johnny Sewell would get Luers on the board, but the Spartan onslaught was too much. A nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter would quickly swell in the second stanza, as the Spartans used a suffocating defensive effort to extend their advantage.
Andrew Leeper was a force on the interior, turning back three Luers shot attempts and affecting many other plays in the lane. In total, Homestead recorded 11 blocks on the night and forced Bishop Luers into 19/77 shooting from the floor. The Knights were able to collect 20 offensive rebounds, but those also turned into several missed opportunities, as the much taller Spartan roster simply overwhelmed Luers with their size and length.
Coming out of the locker room, there were signs of life from the Knights. Lukas North scored eight of his 11 points in the third quarter, thanks to help from a pair of three-pointers. The Spartans, however, were simply too good offensively.
Luke Goode was able to create easy looks for his teammates to the tune of seven assists on the night, and
Andrew Leeper finished the game a perfect six of six from the field.
