(Chrishon McCray talk to Jeff Holloway)
In the final game of the Paul Loggan Memorial Tournament, Avon and Park Tudor battled tooth and nail.
Starting the game, there were not many missed shots. The two teams were a combined 9-13 from the field to begin the game. Ronald Johnson and Malachi Archey were doing the damage for Park Tudor, while Chrishon McCray and Josh Davis carried Avon.
By the end of the first period, both teams had cooled. Park Tudor led 19-15. Early in the second, Archey drilled two triples to push Park Tudor's lead to 10 points. Avon was not on its heels for long. The Orioles responded with a 9-0 run to get back in it. Coba Bakhayokho, Dominique Williams, and Keilyn Moore played a major part in the Avon spurt.
Park Tudor led 29-27 at the half.
After a sloppy few minutes, a balanced Avon attack pushed the Orioles ahead. Bakhayokho and McCray scored four straight to put Avon up 36-31. Park Tudor responded with a 10-0 run as Johnson scored eight of the points. Behind that run, Park Tudor took a three-point lead to the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was a low-scoring affair with Park Tudor struggling with turnovers, and Avon couldn't throw the ball into the ocean. With a minute to play, Johnson drove the lane for a bucket plus the foul. He missed the free throw, but the score gave PT a 47-44 advantage.
Following missed shots by each team, Keilyn Moore came off the Avon bench to splash a three. It tied the game with 49 seconds left.
After milking the clock, Johnson again drove the lane for an easy Park Tudor score with 6.2 seconds remaining.
With the short clock, Avon put the ball in McCray's hands to go the length of the court, and he did exactly that. It looked like Park Tudor had McCray stopped at the coaching box mark, but he changed direction and scored before the buzzer.
In overtime, Park Tudor grabbed the quick lead before Andrew Gray answered with a three-pointer for Avon. Ninety seconds later, JC Glenn scored on a put back gave Park Tudor the 53-52 lead.
With 40 seconds to play, McCray drove to the basket and finished to give Avon the lead back.
On the final possession, Park Tudor was not able to get a good look as Johnson had to force a three late in the clock. It was off the mark, and Avon won 54-53.
McCray led Avon with 17 points; Coba Bakhayokho tallied 11 points and seven rebounds; Josh Davis added seven points and five rebounds; off the bench, Keilyn Moore scored eight, and Andrew Gray had six.
For Park Tudor, Johnson led 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists; Glenn recorded 12 points and 16 records; Archey finished with 14 points.
