In a Sectional 42 preview, Park Tudor visited Heritage Christian for a rare Monday night game.
On the game’s first possession, Park Tudor sophomore Jermain Coleman made a three-pointer. That was just the start of things for Coleman. He made three three-pointers in the opening quarter and six in the game.
Park Tudor’s defense was the story for most of the game. From the 5:13 mark in the first quarter to 3:19 of the second, Heritage Christian did not score. Sophomore Myles Colvin scored 38 points in the last Heritage Christian game, but Park Tudor limited his looks. JC Glenn scored at the peak of the run to stretch Park Tudor’s lead to 23-8.
In the final three minutes of the half, Heritage Christian’s offense came to life. Colvin and Jack Belt made threes. Those outside shots were followed by a bucket from Derran Cobb to cut Park Tudor’s lead to 24-18.
The second half began like the first half as Coleman made another three for the Panthers. In a low-scoring, low-possession period, Coleman ended the frame with a triple to push Park Tudor’s lead to 36-26.
With Heritage Christian’s offense sputtering, the Eagles found an unlikely source in AJ Neal. The junior made consecutive threes from the left corner to cut Park Tudor’s lead to four. That was the closest that Heritage Christian had been since late in the first quarter.
With 2:20 to play, Heritage Christian had the ball while trailing by three points. The Eagles turned the ball over before getting a shot to pull closer. The ensuing possession saw Ronald Johnson slash to the basket for a Park Tudor score.
Park Tudor made its last eight free throws to keep Heritage Christian at bay. The Panthers won 51-44.
Coleman led all scorers with 20 points; Johnson added 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists; JC Glenn contributed nine points, three rebounds, three blocks, and two steals; Malachi Archey tallied six points.
Colvin finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals but committed five turnovers; Jack Belt had a strong second half and scored 10 points in the game; Neal recorded eight points.
