On Tuesday, the 2021 McDonald's All-American team was announced. For the second consecutive year, no Indiana native made the roster. There will be no game this year due to the pandemic, but it is still a prestigious team to make.
Indiana has two players currently ranked in the consensus top 60 - Trey Kaufman-Renn and Caleb Furst. Both are outside of the consensus top 20, and that is where most of the McDonald's All-Americans come. It was a bit of a surprise when Kyle Guy, ranked 37th by the composite, made the team in 2016. In 2019, Trayce Jackson-Davis was in a similar tier. He had a composite ranking of 30.
The last Indiana native to make the McDonald's All-American game was Trayce Jackson-Davis. Before 2020, Indiana had a long streak of residents making the team. It ran from 2010 (Deshaun Thomas) to 2019. The streak extends longer if Mason Plumlee is counted in 2009. He attended school in North Carolina but was a native of Warsaw, Indiana.
