Indiana Basketball Source runs down the regional championship games against the state.
Michigan City – South Bend Riley vs. Gary West Side
West Side is dominating teams in the postseason. That continued this morning with a 34-point win over Elkhart. Quimari Peterson and
Chrishawn Christmas led the charge. Riley is led by
Notre Dame signee
Blake Wesley. He was a playmaker for teammates like Phillip Robles in the
Valpo game. He will need to balance scoring and playmaking to give Riley a chance.
Logansport – Carmel vs. Lafayette Jeff
Carmel controlled the game against Homestead in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up before pulling away late.
Charlie Williams,
Brian Waddell, and
Pete Suder were huge in the Carmel win. Brooks Barnhizer tallied 27 points in the Jeff win over Carroll. It will take that effort and more for Jeff to upset Carmel.
Southport – Lawrence North vs. Plainfield
Both teams did not have too much trouble in the morning games. Other than a late-season loss to Silver Creek, Plainfield has been cruising to victories. Ian Scott led the Quakers again this morning.
Indiana commitment
CJ Gunn scored 16 points for Lawrence North in the win over Ben Davis.
Bloomington South used a late three-point from Jalen Peck to beat Jeffersonville, 51-50, in the morning game. South is playing great in the second half of the season. Reitz went to overtime to beat Center Grove. Senior
Owen Dease led Reitz with 30 points.
3A
South Bend Washington – St. Joe vs. Hammond
This might be the game of the night. Hammond is the top 3A team, but St. Joe is not far behind them. Hammond is a well-balanced team with
Harold Woods and
Darrell Reed leading the way. St. Joe is led by
Notre Dame signee
JR Konieczny. This should be a great game.
New Castle – NorthWood vs. Leo
Leo toasted Mississinewa in the morning game. The Lions were stumbling through games late into the season and were challenged in the sectional, but they looked like their old self in the morning game. Ayden Ruble played a big part in that. Like most of the season, Cade Brenner led NorthWood. He had 27 points in the win over New Castle.
Greencastle – Guerin Catholic vs. Northview
Guerin Catholic defeated a solid Greencastle team this morning. Guerin is a top 3A team, and they are playing like it. Northview has a balanced team with Caleb Swearingen and Brevin Cooper leading the way.
Washington – Silver Creek vs. Connersville
Silver Creek had a close game with Heritage Hills, but
Trey Kaufman-Renn made sure the Dragons advanced. Connersville came back against Sullivan to get to the final. Will Connersville ball control frustrate Silver Creek?
2A
North Judson – Bowman Academy vs. Blackhawk Christian
Both teams were tested in the morning. Churubusco gave Blackhawk everything the Braves could handle, but
Caleb Furst’s 32 points and 19 rebounds powered Blackhawk to the 68-55. Like usual, Koron Davis fueled Bowman’s win over Boone Grove.
Lapel – Blackford vs. Rossville
Luke Brown did not have a huge game, but Landon Grimes carried the Bruins with 23 points and nine rebounds. Kaleb Del Real and Damon Shaw led Rossville. There is a feeling that Brown will have a huge game.
Greenfield – Shenandoah vs. Parke Heritage
Shenandoah took care of Covenant Christian in convincing fashion this morning. That was a No. 2 vs. No. 3 match-up and Shenandoah treated CC like they did not belong in the same gym. Parke Heritage had an early scare before pulling away from Triton Central. Shenandoah looks like a well-oiled machine right now.
Southridge – Southwestern (Hanover) vs. Southridge
The Southridge offense has been entirely
Colson Montgomery. He scored all 14 Southridge first-half points against Paoli today. He also scored 26 of Southridge’s 30 first-half points in the sectional title game. Southwestern is a more balanced team with Austin Kramer, Matthew Williams, and Foster Mefford. Will Montgomery continue to carry Southridge?
1A
Triton – Kouts vs. Triton
It looked like Kouts was going to cruise in the opening game, but Fremont fought back to make it a game. Triton played two overtimes before beating Caston. Kouts has the more high-powered team, but Triton and Jason Groves are used to winning in the tournament.
Frankfort – Lafayette Central Catholic vs. Southwood
LCC will get to .500 with a win. The Knights slipped by Cowan in the morning game. Southwood blew out Seton Catholic. Southwood’s Carson Rich is the best player in the game. If LCC contains him, the Knights will have a great chance.
Martinsville – Southwestern (Shelbyville) vs. Tindley
Tindley tested itself all season and has great talent. The Tigers beat Shakamak with ease this morning. Aaron Humphrey and Jayden Pinkston are going to be tough to stop.
Loogootee – Barr-Reeve vs. Lanesville
Barr-Reeve rolled through Trinity Lutheran behind a big game from
Bellarmine signee
Curt Hopf. Barr-Reeve is a heavy favorite in this one as well.
