Reports from Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello have
Purdue assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry will take the Penn State head coaching spot, and
Indiana State will hire Lincoln Memorial head coach Josh Schertz as its next head coach. Goodman reported the Shrewsberry news, and Borzello posted the
Indiana State news.
The Shrewsberry news was no surprise, but it reportedly became a done deal today. Shrewsberry was an assistant during
Butler's Final Four runs and then went to the Boston Celtics with Brad Stevens. He was a finalist for the UMass job in 2017. He was interviewed a few times for the A10 position. Shrewsberry is a highly-respected coach that guided the
Purdue offense the last two years. He can be seen drawing up plays in the huddle last in games as Matt Painter steps aside.
Along with Penn State, Shrewsberry's name was floated at Boston College and
Indiana State. Once it became clear that he was going to get a bigger job, it was apparent that he would not be taking the
Indiana State position.
The
Indiana State head coaching job became open when the Sycamores shifted away from Greg Lansing. The Iowa native spent 11 seasons in Terre Haute. ISU went to the NCAA Tournament in Lansing's first season but did not return. During his tenure, he was 181-164.
Those dominoes led to Josh Schertz securing a deal with the Sycamores. Lincoln Memorial is currently in the D2 NCAA Tournament. On Tuesday, the Railsplitters play Emmanuel. In his 13th season, Schertz has an 83 percent winning percentage at LMU.
Schertz recruited
Indiana while at LMU in Tennessee. The Railsplitters landed Courvoisier McCulley out of
Indianapolis. McCulley became a D2 All-American before transferring to DePaul this season. Currently, LMU has
Jordan Walters on the roster. The Harrison (West Lafayette) graduate appeared in 14 games so far this season.
