With the completion of Saturday's semi-state games, the 2021 IHSAA boys basketball state final match-ups are set.
4A - Carmel vs. Lawrence North
The MIC rivals will meet for the biggest crown. It is the third consecutive 4A championship game that features two MIC teams fighting for the title. In 2018, it was Warren Central vs. Carmel; 2019 saw Carmel beat Ben Davis. Of course, there was not a state title game in 2020.
At Lafayette Jeff, Connor Gioia and Brian Waddell led Carmel over Gary West Side in overtime. Jeff Schoenle has the full recap. Lawrence North weathered a three-point storm by Bloomington South to win the Seymour semi-state. Indiana University football commitment Donaven McCulley made a bunch of timely baskets to push the Wildcats to the win. Here is a full recap of that back and forth game between LN and Bloomington South.
3A - Leo vs. Silver Creek
Leo erased a 16-point deficit to beat St. Joe. Last week, it was St. Joe that overcome a big halftime deficit to beat Hammond. Notre Dame signee JR Konieczny scored 20 points in the first half to help St. Joe build that lead. Blake Davison scored 17 points, including the game-winner to lead Leo.
Silver Creek battled Guerin Catholic, but Kooper Jacobi, Trey Kaufman-Renn, and Branden Northern proved to be too much. The Dragons advanced with a 54-46 win. Here is the complete recap.
2A - Blackhawk Christian vs. Parke Heritage
Blackhawk Christian dismantled Blackford, 88-61. Zane Burke led the Braves with 21 points and also collected high quantities of assists and rebounds. Mr. Basketball candidate recorded Caleb Furst 20 points and 11 rebounds. In the loss, Blackford's Luke Brown crossed the 3,000 career point mark. He scored 34 in the loss to finish with 3,011. That ranks fourth in IHSAA's all-time scoring list.
In the south, Connor Davis and Riley Ferguson led Parke Heritage over Southridge with 14 and 13 points, respectively. In a low-scoring game, Southridge's Colson Montgomery tallied 25.
1A - Kouts vs. Barr-Reeve
This is number one against number two for the state title. It rarely works out this way, but 1A gets the dream duel.
At Lafayette Jeff, Kouts ran away from Southwood. The Wiremans, Cole and Cale, dominated as they combined for 55 points. Carson Rich fought back with 30 for Southwood, but it was not enough. Full recap here.
Barr-Reeve led Tindley, 24-16, at the half. With a snap of the finger, Barr-Reeve ran away with it. By the buzzer, Barr-Reeve won 72-25. Bellarmine signee Curt Hopf gobbled up 20 points and 16 rebounds in the blowout.
