Ahead of the 2020-2021 Indiana high school basketball season, Indiana Basketball Source breaks down its top teams in each class. This article looks at the best teams in class A and 2A.
Indiana Basketball Source's 2020-2021 preseason Class 3A all-state teams feature seven players that have signed with D1 programs. A few more have D1 offers. Heading into the season, Purdue signee Trey Kaufman is the top 3A prospect. The skilled forward is looking to push Silver Creek to its second state championship. The Dragons had a great chance to repeat last season before the cancellation.
As a junior, Kaufman took a major step as a shooter. He shot 40 percent on 82 three-point attempts. To back up that accuracy, Kaufman shot 75 percent from the free throw line. With his size and athleticism, Kaufman is one of the most versatile players in the state. In addition to his shooting, Kaufman converted 70 percent of his two-point attempts. At the high school level, there aren't many holes to Kaufman's game.
Indiana Basketball Source completes its preseason all-state teams with the 4A class. Like most years, each player listed on the 4A all-state teams is a D1 signee or prospect.
Leading the way is Notre Dame signee Blake Wesley. The South Bend Riley guard is one of the most dynamic players in the state. He was an elite scorer that scored in transition, off the dribble, and as a shooter. He nearly scored 600 points in 23 games as a junior. Wesley is one of the most entertaining players in the state. The upside to his game is unlimited.
Indiana Basketball Source continues its preseason all-state team selections. Earlier this week, the Class A teams were unveiled. Now, the 2A preseason all-state teams are detailed. Over the three teams, there are four D1 basketball signees, a couple of other players with D1 offers, and one player committed to play D1 baseball.
The 2A first team is led by Purdue signee Caleb Furst. The 2021 frontliner had Blackhawk Christian poised to win its second consecutive state title last year before the tournament's cancellation. Behind Furst, they are the heavy favorites again this season. As a junior, Furst was dominant. He averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds a game while shooting 68 percent from the field. Blackhawk played a 4A-type schedule and Furst was able to do whatever he wanted. Throughout high school, Furst has expanded his game away from the basket inch by inch. It will see how much he will be on the perimeter this year compared to dominating around the paint.
