NAIA schools have begun playing regular season games already. As always, the NAIA talent for Indiana schools is off the charts. Here is a look at the early NAIA action from in-state schools.
IU-South Bend handled IU-East in Richmond, 91-64. The Titans are a strong team, and the CCAC coaches picked IU-South Bend to win the conference. They kicked the season off strong, with seven players scoring in double figures - Miles Tracy, Doneyll Meredith, Dylan Allen, Sergio Diaz, Spencer Pettit, Kenny Washington, and Micah Poole. IU-East is a staple at the national NAIA Tournament, and Mark Hester has plenty of talent once again. However, the Red Wolves will be a different team later in the season.
Bethel took care of Governors State, 88-72. Zac Owens is back for the Pilots and led them with 18 points, six assists, and two steals. Valparaiso alum Nate Aerts tallied 17 points and ten rebounds. Wesley Burse and Drew Greene each scored 13 points for Bethel.
St. Francis convincingly beat Michigan-Dearborn, 117-58. All-American Antwaan Cushingberry led the Cougars with 30 points and eight assists. He is going to power St. Francis all season. Dan McKeeman hit eight three-points on his way to 24 points in the blowout win.
Holy Cross is 2-0 with wins over Andrews University and Lake Michigan College. Nash Hostetler, Ryan Black, and Beau Ludwick are leading the way for Holy Cross so far.
IU-Southeast destroyed Simmons College of Kentucky, 94-64. Anthony Wales recorded 25 points, and Jared Osborne tallied 22 points and seven rebounds.
It is going to be another great season of NAIA basketball throughout the state. Indiana Basketball Source will post advanced individual stats for the NAIA level throughout the season.
