(
Xavier Booker from April 2021)
The penultimate game of the 2021 FORUM Tipoff Classic features a talent-rich Cathedral team against the only out-of-state squad, Covington Catholic. Every player that steps on the floor in this one will have an opportunity to play at the next level.
2023 forward
Xavier Booker is the highest-ranked player in the game with offers from
Indiana,
Purdue,
Butler,
Notre Dame,
Ohio State,
Michigan State, Iowa, and more. The lanky junior is coming into his own as a player. He has averaged 13.3 points and seven rebounds per game through four games. Cathedral needs Booker to produce to win big games like this one.
Eastern Kentucky signee
Tayshawn Comer is a Mr. Basketball candidate. He took over the game against Brebeuf in the fourth quarter and overtime to pull out a victory. His quickness off the dribble is elite, and Covington Catholic will have its hands full keeping him contained.
Murray State Jaxon Edwards is one of the best athletes in the state. He is still getting his footing this year, but Edwards can have a breakout game at any point. He might be Cathedral’s best defender as well.
Junior forward Jake Davis is a knock-down shooter and is always willing to take a charge. Junior guard Sincere Germany is a first-year starter for Jason Delaney. He is a wiry guard that is versatile on the offensive end. Freshman point guard Lebron Gough gives the Fighting Irish quality minutes early in the season. His quickness and playmaking ability are easy to see.
Although Cathedral is loaded, don’t feel too sorry for Covington Catholic. Senior Mitchell Rylee is signed with
Miami of Ohio and proved that he could produce against anyone over the summer. In Covington Catholic's season opener, he went 14 of 18 from the floor for 34 points. Rylee is a strong, tough forward that plays above the rim. He will take the action right at Cathedral.
Junior guard Evan Ipsaro had a great summer with
Indiana Elite, and it looks like he is continuing it with Covington Catholic. Ipsaro scored 32 points in Cov Catholic’s second game of the year. He loves to attack off the dribble and always keeps his foot on the pedal. He has multiple division one offers on the table.
Kascyl McGillis provides shooting for Covington Catholic. He went four of four from deep in Covington Catholic’s last game. Chandler Starks is a junior forward averaging ten rebounds per game through two games.
It will be a highly competitive game with tons of individual talent on each side.
