NorthWood used a dominating second quarter to notch a road victory over the 8-1 Columbia City Eagles on Tuesday night.
Ian Raasch went for a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, while Cade Brenner shrugged off a tough shooting night to score 10 of his 12 points after halftime.
Both teams struggled to score from the onset, but the woes for the host Eagles lasted a little longer, as NorthWood opened the second period on a 15-2 run before a foul 80 feet from the basket with 1.5 seconds left before halftime allowed Rhet Wilson to knock down a pair of free throws. In the first half, Columbia City would shoot just 3-19 from the field, with most of their scoring coming from the free-throw line.
The lead for NorthWood would stay in the six to nine-point range for most of the second half. Senior guard Seth Mills would boost the Eagles by scoring all six of his points in the fourth, aided by a couple of thefts. His team would close to within a pair with just over two minutes remaining, but a driving Cade Brenner layup and a Chaz Yoder swipe and score would shut the door on any potential Columbia City comeback.
NorthWood shot 20-43 compared to Columbia City's 12-37 and outrebounded the hosts 27-15, grabbing nine offensive rebounds. Columbia City's shooting tally included a 1-12 night from behind the arc. A positive takeaway for the Eagles was a 16-19 performance at the line.
NorthWood moves to 11-1 on the season, while Columbia City's seven-game winning streak ends, and they fall to 8-2.
