The 2022 IHSAA boys basketball state final match-ups take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 26. The state finals are played in two sessions with 1A and 2A first, then after a break, 3A and 4A play in a night session.
8:15 p.m. - 4A: Chesterton (29-0) vs. Cathedral (25-6)
Chesterton is the only undefeated team left in the state. Senior point guard Travis Grayson leads the Trojans in nearly every category. On the other side, Cathedral has a star point guard in
Tayshawn Comer. He is headed to Eastern Kentucky and has put himself in Mr. Basketball contention. Additionally, Jaron Tibbs, Jaxon Edwards,
Xavier Booker, and Jake Davis play huge roles for the Irish. With offers from
Indiana,
Purdue,
Michigan State,
Illinois, and many more, Booker has taken his game to another level the last six weeks.
6:00 p.m. - 3A: Mishawaka
Marian (24-3) vs. Beech Grove (21-6)
Marian sat near the top of the 3A rankings all season. Senior shooting guard Richard Brooks is playing great, and junior Deaglan Sullivan has been a consistent scorer for the Knights all season.
Marian played in the toughest 3A sectional before playing Culver Academies and Leo in the regional and semi-state. Beech Grove went through a gauntlet in the regional and semi-state to reach the 3A championship game. In each game, junior power forward Anthony Ball is a double-double threat, but Beech Grove relies on balanced effort to win games.
12:45 p.m. - 2A: Central Noble (28-2) vs. Providence (20-6)
Central Noble relied on
Wisconsin signee Connor Essegian and a powerful defense to reach the 2A final. Essegian averages 27 points per game and can catch fire from three-point range at any time. Providence, a surprise entrant, went through a challenging road to make the final. Providence used a big fourth quarter to win the semi-state over Eastern Hancock. Casey Kaelin and Max Beatty play significant roles for Providence.
10:30 a.m. - 1A: Lafayette Central Catholic (20-9) vs. North Daviess (26-3)
Central Catholic pulled an upset over 21st Century in the semi-state. Clark Obermiller and Clark Barrett were fantastic for LCC. Obermiller pulled down a ridiculous 16 offensive rebounds and 22 overall in the win. Barrett and Obermiller were leaders for LCC all season. Most of the season, North Daviess ranked at or near the top of 1A. Junior point guard Jaylen Mullen is the leader for North Daviess, but Devin Collins, Lance Wilson, Logan Wilson, Markus Britton, and Brendan Stickles contribute regularly.
