(Karason Jenkins, pictured last year, had a game-high 26 points)
Fishers used their physicality to dominate the backboard and the foul line as they defeated Snider 77-65 Thursday afternoon to win the Hunting North Holiday Hoops tournament crown. Jeff Simmons was unstoppable, going for 26 points and 11 rebounds in the title game.
In the championship game at New Castle, Westfield used a dynamic third quarter to open up a 25 point led, then weather a Cathedral comeback attempt to defeat the Irish 74-63. Cam Haffner scored 30 in the game, including a pair of crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter and sealing the game from the foul line in the final minute. Fellow senior Braden Smith had a triple-double of 12 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists to go along with seven steals and a pair of blocks for good measure.
After a full day at the Noblesville Holiday Tournament, here are Indiana Basketball Source’s player evaluations on players from Chesterton, Crown Point, Lawrence Central, Noblesville, and Norwell. Indiana Basketball Source has seen each of the listed teams multiple times this season.
Chesterton
Travis Grayson – 5-9 – PG – 2022
Tournament MVP. He took over the title game when Chesterton needed him to. He created three steals in a row and scored himself after each one. His defensive ability and tenacity are an overlooked part of his game. He passed really well once he drove to the paint. He found small spaces to get the ball to bigs at the basket without being bothered by the length. Grayson’s outside shot is much improved, but he did not look for it against Noblesville. He made mechanical changes to his form, leading to a much smoother shot. He is shooting exceptionally well from the free-throw line this season. That bodes well for his future as a shooter. He has widespread NAIA interest and offers right now.
