The 2013-2014 4A state champion Indianapolis Tech Titans opened the season Wednesday night at Warren Central. Warren Central's Djimon Henson and Trequan Shivey stole the show combining for 53 points in the 80-77 victory.
The pace was fast from the get-go Wednesday night. Tech senior Donte Gladney began the game aggressive and it paid dividends for Tech. Gladney had 18 points in the first half. He was not the only player with a big first half though. Henson poured in 16 points in the opening half to keep Warren Central within striking distance.
The lead constantly changed hands throughout the second half. C.J. Walker - a Purdue verbal commitment - turned up his aggressiveness in the second half which helped Tech stay in the game. Sophomore Trequan Shivey was huge in the third quarter. Shivey did a great job of finishing around the basket all game for Warren Central.
Two big shots by junior guard Bishop Smith altered the dynamic of the game. Smith buried back to back three-pointers with under two minutes to play after being quiet throughout most of the game. It gave Warren Central a six point lead that it would not give up the rest of the game.
Chris Davis hit some pressure-packed shots in the second half including a three-pointer which cut the Warren Central lead to 79-77 with 40 seconds left. C.J. Hardaway made one of two free throws for Warren Central to give the Warriors a three point lead. C.J. Walker was able to get a clean look from about 22 feet out, but the shot rimmed off.
