McCutcheon defeated Benton Central in the first round of the J & C Hoops Classic Tuesday night. McCutcheon was led by senior guard Tre'Shon Heard.

Benton Central was in the game until the fourth quarter. McCutcheon held a three point lead at half time and an eight point lead after three quarters. Things changed dramatically in the fourth period. McCutcheon scored the first 22 points of the final quarter. Benton Central finally was able to make a couple free-throws in the closing seconds of the game.

Tre'Shon Heard led McCutcheon with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior wing Darnell Butler was in foul trouble most of the game. He finished with eight points. Senior point guard Dionte Nunn was a big factor in opening the lead for McCutcheon during the fourth quarter. He finished with 13 points as well. Senior shooter Spencer Caldwell added 11 for McCutcheon.

McCutcheon will play Lafayette Jeff in the semifinal Friday while Benton Central will play Lafayette Harrison in a consolation game Thursday.
