Richmond and Jeffersonville faced-off Saturday in the semifinals of The Bob Wettig Tournment. The story of the game was Richmond senior guard Michael Tillman. After a pretty quiet first half, Tillman hit three three-pointers in the third quarter. His shooting opened up a lead that Jeffersonville was never able to bounce back from.
The first half was back and forth. Richmond held a three point lead at the halftime break. Jeffersonville senior Drew Ellis was creating a lot of the offense with the dribble in the first half while junior guard Chad Hudson hit a couple of threes.
The Jeffersonville offense came to a screaching alt in the second half as Richmond took away all easy opportunities and open shots. Dionte Allen was the only Jeffersonville player that was able to get any good looks in the second half.
Tillman had some open looks in the first half, but his shots were falling just short. In the second half, he corrected his distance and didn't miss any open looks. He scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half. Many of his open looks were thanks to the penetration of junior point guard Joel Okafor. Okafor found Tillman for a couple of his outside shots. The point guard finished with 6 assists.
Richmond advanced to the championship game of the Bob Wettig Tournament with the win. Columbus North defeated Fort Wayne North to meet Richmond in the final.
