Indiana Basketball Source covered the adidas Spring Classic in Indianapolis and the Derby City Classic in Louisville this weekend. Former Ball State associate head coach Bob Simmons was on board once to help cover games again this weekend.
Unfortunately, Friday and Saturday were filled with blow-outs in both events. The more competitive the games, the better for evaluations. We tried to focus on teams and players that we had not seen much of over the first three weeks of the AAU season. We have 50 player evaluations from the 17 and under age division from the two tournaments.

The article is organized alphabetically by club team.
Eric Gordon-Green
#11 Eron Gordon, 6'2” SG North Central HS 2016, the high-major recruit had a good but not great weekend. His strength and first step are his greatest attributes right now. His shooting consistency and non-straight line drives are his biggest weaknesses.
#25 Brad Hunt, 6'10” C Jennings County HS 2014, 5 man. Long, thin, competes, runs the floor well, good hands. Hunt finishes inside-right hand dominate. He moves his feet well when showing on ball screens. His offensive game just has not progressed over the last couple of years at a very fast rate. His size and motor gives him a chance to be a D1 candidate, but his development up to this points to him being a D2 or NAIA prospect.
#21 John Roberts, 5'10” G God's Academy (Texas) 2014, Small, strong, thinks score first and pass second. He is a shooter with time and space due to size. He has been showing a better feel for the game this spring. D2
#3 Justin Baker, 5'8” PG Cathedral HS 2014, Small, quick, sees the floor, creates offense off the dribble with his quickness. Low-Major Stretch.
#44 Matt Gregory, 6'6” F Cathedral HS 2014, 4/3 man. Long, thin, shooter when set with time and space. D2 or NAIA
# 32 Michael Loggan, 6'6” SF North Central HS 2014, 3 man. Long, good body, active. NAIA
#1 Collin Barthel,6'6” PF Cathedral HS 2014, Competes! Barthel will do all the dirty work. Screens and rebounds D2
#33 Garrett Hall, 6'2” SG Cathedral HS 2013, LEFTY. Shooter with time and space. He is good coming off of screens. He is a strong kid which helps him finish around basket. He picked up an offer from Saginaw Valley State last week. D2
Eric Gordon-Keeton
#23 Jacob Johnson, 6'6” PF Mooresville HS 2014, really strong. His outside shot has not improved since last year. He is being more productive than he was last year though. Low-Major
#21 Sam Logwood, 6'6” F La Lumiere School 2014, NBA type of body and athleticism. Those are the 2 things that have made college coaches and media members rave the last two years. His skill set makes him a 4-man right now. He had 4 turnovers handling the ball in the first half against the Indiana Bobcats. Mainly in situations when a 2nd defender came over to help or trap and he did not handle it well. Mid-Major
#15 Mack Mercer, 6'9” PF Plymouth HS 2014, first weekend for Mercer with Eric Gordon-Keeton. LEFTY. 3 point range. He has good feel in the low post, can shot fake and put on floor and get to basket and finish. Mid-Major Plus
#20 Perry Poindexter, 6'7” PF North Central HS 2014, Long, thin, good hands, finishes well around the basket. He occasionally shows the ability to hit mid-range jumpers off the catch. He cannot handle it against pressure. There is a large gap between Poindexter's potential ceiling and his current level. Low-Major right now with no great signs that he will improve enough to be effective higher than that.
Fieldhouse Elite 2014
#4 Troy Spears, 6'4” SG Martinsville HS 2014, solid frame. He's not a bad athlete. He shot the ball well this weekend. The big thing is when he goes against athletes he struggles. He was once committed to New Mexico. Low-Major Stretch
#3 Aaron Korn, 6'4” SG Frankton HS 2014, long and thin. Korn competes every time that he takes the floor. He is aggressive attacking the basket. He is best as a slasher. Korn's outside shot must improve. Low-Major/Low-Major Stretch
#7 Aaron Brennan, 6'6” PF Guerin Catholic 2014, is really more of an undersized center at this point. He is best around the basket. He is more and more inconsistent the farther he gets away from the basket. Brennan has no lift off the floor. He does compete, and he has a good feel for the game. Low-Major
#1 Whit Rapp, 5'11” PG Geurin Catholic 2014, Competes! Rapp has a good feel for the game. He runs the team very well. He sees the floor, and is a good shooter when open. Rapp doesn’t force things. NAIA or D3 prospect.
#2 Conner Funkhouser, 6'4” SG Avon HS 2014, Lefty. Solid frame and length. He is definitely best driving to his left. He needs to work on his weak (right) hand. He is also streaky from the outside. He's a very good NAIA prospect.
#5 Evan Henry, 6'3” SG Columbus North 2014, Lefty. Thin. Henry has a solid all-around game. He's not a great athlete but he can really shoot the ball. He played mostly point guard this season for Columbus North. He is a steady ball-handler but he isn't going to break down the defense off the dribble and create for others against good athletes. Low-Major Stretch
#0 Tyler Arens,6'7” PF Munice Central HS 2014, 4 man. LEFTY. Long, thin, in/out player that seems to float out on perimeter. Left hand dominate in the post. Capable 3-point shooter. D2
Illinois Old School-Woods
#24 Scott Lindsey, 6'4” SG Fenwick HS (Ill.) 2014, thin, athletic build. Lindsey is a good outside shooter but really struggled in the game against Indiana Elite 2014. He could not get anything to go down. He doesn't create much off the dribble. Low-Major
#15 John Joyce, 6'6” F Taft HS (Ill.) 2014, long, Thin. Shooter. He has been battling a back injury this spring that has limited his minutes.
Indiana Bobcats
#1 Pat Bacon, 5'10” PG Indianapolis Howe HS 2014, good length for a point guard. He has the quickness to break a defender down and the handles to do so as well. We need to watch Bacon closer the next time we see him. NAIA
#10 D'tavian Walker, 6'4” F Indianapolis Howe HS 2014, great build for a high school kid. He is a very good leaper. He plays with a lot of energy on the defensive end and on the glass. His offensive skills seem to be under-developed. D2 or NAIA
#3 Darren Trice, 6'2” G Lawerence Central HS 2014, good frame and good athlete. He showcased decent handles on Friday night. His shot is very streaky. He also showed poor awareness by getting his jump shot blocked a few times. NAIA or D3
Indiana Elite-Kendrick
Carlos Knox, 6'2” SG Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter HS 2013, extremely thin. This was the first weekend for Knox with Indiana Elite. He had been with Men of the Family. He has good quickness and is skilled with the ball. His slight frame holds him back though. Knox is a D2 prospect right now. If he goes prep and is able to add some muscle, he could be D1 next year.
Indiana Elite 2014-Kroot
#4 Ernie Duncan, 6'2” PG Evansville Harrison HS 2014, Good build. He'll be able to add strength pretty easily. Duncan competes on both ends. He is a good but not great athlete. He has good feel for the game. Mid-Major
#44 Milik Yarbrough, 6'5” SF Zion-Benton HS (Ill.) 2014, strong, thick frame. He competes. He gets to the basket and finishes. His feel for game needs to improve-forced several passes. I heard a rumor this weekend that Yarbrough might be transferring to La Lumiere this year. Mid-Major
#30 Kelan Martin 6'6” F Louisville Ballard HS (Ky.) 2014, 4/3 man. He is likely more of a 4 but he played well on the perimeter Sunday. Thick build. Martin handles the ball well for his size. He has good hands, finishes, capable 3pt shooter. His motor needs to be more consistent. Mid-Major/Mid-Major Plus
#24 Keaton Hendricks, 6'5” SG Bloomington HS South 2014, Good body. He has been shooting really well this spring. He has good feel. Hendricks finishes with contact around basket, moves well without the ball. Low-Major Plus
#34 Jeremie Tyler, 6'1” SG Indianapolis Tech HS 2014, Quick and explosive. He has a wiry build. When he attacks the basket his game goes to a different level. He is a very good shooter. Mid-Major
#32 Makur Puou, 6'9” C Mooseheart Academy (Ill.) 2014: Thin but has some muscle. Shot blocker, plays above the rim. He has good hands. I haven't seen him do more than dunk on the offensive end but this was the first time seeing him this spring. His eligibility will likely be in question. Mid-Major/Mid-Major Plus.
Grassroots Indiana-Bailey
#14 Carter Van Wanzeele, 6'4” SG Avon HS 2014, Wiry build. Competes. He has good feel. He is a big-time shooter. He rarely forces shots and probably should look to take more because he is such a good shooter. He gets to basket and finishes. D2
#11 Trevor Lucas, 6'0” PG Brownsburg HS 2014, new addidtion to Grassroots Indiana after Tyler Bryant left to play with Men of the Family. Competes. He really gets after it defensively. He is good laterally. He doesn't look to score very often. He is a good shooter and quick enough to get to the basket. D2
Meanstreets-Ross
#22 Sire Carroll, 6'6” F Chicago Orr HS (Ill.) 2014, strong, thick build. He was blown by defensively a few times and he gave up on plays. He took bad shots on the offensive end. He did hit 2 huge shots towards the end of the SW Illinois Jets game though. His size gives him a chance to be successful at the D2 or NAIA level but I don't think he would do well higher than that unless he totally changes his game.
#21 Jaycee Hillsman, 6'6” SF Chicago Simeon HS (Ill.) 2014, Lefty. Good frame/strength. He hit a couple of outside shots over defenders. First impression is that he has a chance to be a D1 prospect.
#33 Matt Stewart, 6'7” C Kouts HS (Ind.) 2014, narrow frame. He does not move particularly well. He does compete especially on the defensive end. His ball skills are under-developed. D3
Northwest Ohio
#31 Dakota Mathias, 6'5” SG Elida HS (Ohio) 2014, Thick body. He can put the ball on the floor to get to the basket. He's not a great athlete but has a decent first step. He has a pure shooting stroke. NW Ohio posted him up at about 8-10 feet and isolated him. He did not hit any 3's in the game I saw. My first impression of Mathias was that he was a low-major to mid-major prospect. Purdue has offered him though.
#13 Taren Sullivan, 6'5” SG Lima Bath HS (Ohio) 2014, might have been the surprise of the weekend for me. First time seeing Sullivan so I do not know how consistent he is. He has good length. He is a good athlete. He basically played 1-4 on both ends of the court. He looked like a really good Mid-Major prospect on Saturday.
Peoria Irish-Finke
#3 Marcus Bartley, 6'4” PG Decatur MacArthur HS (Ill.) 2014, I did not get a chance to watch much of the Peoria Irish down in Louisville on Saturday but Bartley was impressive. He has GREAT length. He handles it really well. He has good quickness. He has offers from a host of Mid-Major programs.
Spiece Higher Level-Daniel
John Paul, 6'10” C La Lumiere School 2013, strong, good frame. He is college ready physically. He didn't show great hands as a few passes went through his hands. His game is definitely all right around the basket. Paul does have some touch. This weekend was the first real good look at Paul for me. He has a chance to be a low-major player but his skills are not ready for him to contribute right away.
D.J. McCall, 6'6” SF Fort Wayne Concordia HS 2014, long and thin. He's not explosive off the dribble but he can elevate. He had a couple of really big dunks. McCall did not blow by guys but he scored over the top with his length once in got into the lane. He did try to go too much in Spiece Higher Level's tournament and he struggled. He's definitely a nice player but I like him more for the high level D2 or NAIA levels than D1. Low-Major Stretch
Perry Fairrow, 6'3” SG Evansville Bosse HS 2014, played the best game that I have seen him play on Saturday against Northwest Ohio. He had 27 with 10 minutes left in the game. He was getting into the lane at will. He was also 3-6 from the outside. Late in the game he did force a few things offensively. I've never seen Fairrow “locked in” on the defensive end. When I watch him I don't get the feeling that he is in the moment while he is on the court. Fairrow is definitely skilled and talented. I would like to seem him be more aggressive defensively. Low-Major
Bo Burkhart, 5'11” G Evansville Bosse HS 2014, a little small, decent frame. He's more of a shooting guard than point guard. He does not protect the ball very well when handling it. He also throws it trouble often. Burkhart is a good shooter, but not great. He recently tweeted that he was offered by Bellarmine. That would be the top of his potential range. D2 or NAIA prospect.
Colton Irvin, 6'7” PF Mount Vernon (Posey) HS 2014, thin. He got pushed around in the post very easily. The lack of strength also hurt his rebounding abilities. NAIA or D3 prospect.
Zach Zurcher, 6'5” SF NorthWood HS 2014, strong, really strong. He scored at the basket well this weekend. He can also shoot it a little bit. Zurcher is a solid player that isn't extremely weak in any phase. He just isn't great in any phase either. He would be really, really good at the D2 or NAIA level. D1 is possible but it would be a stretch. Low-Major Stretch
Johnathon Wilkinson, 6'4” SG NorthWood HS 2014, first good look at Wilkinson this weekend other than watching a couple of his games on film. He's a little thin/wiry. He's a good athlete. Wilkinson has a good first step off the dribble. He has a quick release from the outside. He was very active on the offensive glass. He would be very good at the D2 or NAIA level. I don't think he would be able to create easy scoring opportunity for himself or others at the D1 level. Low-Major Stretch.
Alec Turner, 6'0” G Marion HS 2014, strong. Turner is better off the ball as a shooter. He isn't going to penetrate and get all the way to the basket very often. He's not extremely quick on either end of the floor. NAIA or D3 prospect.
SYF Hoopmatics
#22 Rashaun Richardson, 6'7” F Indianapolis Tech HS 2014, long, wiry combo forward. He is athletic. He is handling the ball much better this spring. Richardson shies away from physicality which holds his game back. He picked up offers from Robert Morris, Georiga State and Kent State last week. His ceiling is Mid-Major but he is a Low-Major recruit right now.
#24 Bryce Lienhoop, 6'6” F Columbus East HS 2014, long, thin build. He really struggled against getting his shot off over Aaron Brennan. He is crafty around the basket but the lack of lift hurts him. Lienhoop can be a really good small college player but he struggles when he goes up against size and athleticism.
#12 Austin Shelton, 5'11” PG Park Tudor 2014, small, average build. He has decent quickness. He competes, he will stick his nose in defensively. He seems to be streaky from the outside. This was the first time seeing him this spring as he was not at the IndyBall event.
#44 Tyler Thomas, 6'7” F Franklin Community HS 2014, thin. He can catch and shoot to at least 17 feet. He has never extremely productive while I have watched him. D3 {/iACL}
