In front of a packed Wayne High School gym Friday night, four teams looked to gain entry into the SAC tournament championship.
The first semi featured Snider against Northrop in a duel of strong front courts. Snider led throughout and eventually opened a 16 point lead in the third quarter. But just like in their quarterfinal contest against Bishop Dwenger, Northrop would mount a furious rally. The Bruins would cut the deficit all the way to five points, but Snider would hold on for a 66-58 victory. Devlyn Williams scored 22, with
Malik Williams adding 15 and Jessie Bates (Toledo football commit) poured in 13 for Snider.
Anton Berry led Northrop with 15, with Nigel Kilby adding 13, Aaron Thomas chipped in seven, and Jagger Surface had six.
The nightcap featured a battle between North Side and Concordia, schools separated by just a mile and a half. Concordia would sprint out to a 13-6 lead after one quarter, and build that advantage to 19-6 before North Side would turn up the defensive pressure. The Redskins grabbed control and ended the half on a 19-5 run to take a one point lead into the break. North Side would gradually build a double digit barrier, and would keep the Cadets at bay for a 59-48 win. Leading North Side with 17 points was senior Jajuan Starks, while Sean McGee added 13 and
Jaylen Butz had eight. Paxton Bergdoll topped Concordia with 15 while classmates Reggie Tharp had 14 and Justes King notched nine points.
Saturday's championship game is a rematch of a December 12th contest that saw North Side come away victorious by a score of 52-46. The game will be at 7pm at Wayne HS.
