Friday's game was a re-match of an overtime contest in the Hendricks County Tournament. That game saw Danville end up with the victory. A sell out crowd at Tri-West was hoping for a different result this time around.
Write it off as nerves, but both teams started off with many turnovers in the first quarter. The pace was definitely to Danville's advantage as well. Tri-West headed the game averaging 78 points per game. They had just 23 in the first half. Part of that was the fact that Trevor Waite had just six points after entering the game averaging 24.
Danville began the second half with an 8-0 run to open the largest lead of the game, 34-23. Tri-West answered right back with a 12-2 run of its own. Tri-West took a two lead to the final period thanks to a late quarter three-pointer by Waite.
The fourth started with Tri-West continuing its run. The Bruins were up 47-40 early in the final period. The momentum shifted quickly to Danville's side. The Warriors went on a 13-0 run which gave them a six point with 150 seconds left. Tri-West never regained the lead. The Bruins had chances to tie the game late, but they could never get over the hump. Danville won 64-57.
One deciding factor was the free-throw shooting of Tri-West. They were just 13 of 25 in the game. On the other hand, Danville was 15 of 21.
Luke Callahan led Danville with 21 points. Ryan Cloncs added 20 points in the win. Indiana Wesleyan-bound guard Trevor Waite had 23 points in the game but was just six of fourteen from the field and seven of thirteen from the line.
Danville moves to 13-2 on the season. Tri-West is now 13-2 as well. Don't be surprised if these two teams meet one more time this season.
