Indianapolis Shortridge entered Friday's game having lost four of its last five games after a 10-3 start. University was going in the opposite direction having won six of its last seven games. Early on it looked like University was going to continue the trend. Shortridge used a great third quarter to turn the game in the Blue Devils direction.
It was all University to begin the game. Tyler Diehl hit a couple shots early on and Shortridge found itself down 10-2 just a few minutes into the game. Courvoisier McCauley picked up two fouls when he came off the bench, but he still gave Shortridge a boost when the team lacked energy.
Shortridge's zone defense kept University from getting shots in the paint and around the rim. University was able to get clean shooting opportunities from three-point range, but the Trailblazers went ice cold in the third period. Shortridge took advantage of that outscoring University 15-2 in the quarter.
Senior forward Various Wilson controlled the boards especially in the second half for Shortridge. He grabbed 11 of his 17 rebounds in the second half. He also had nine points.
Junior guard Connor Holly gave University hope in the fourth quarter when he hit back to back three-pointers cutting the Shortridge lead to 46-38. That's as close as University would get down the stretch. Shortridge won 53-38.
