A court forced the IHSAA to re-draw the Sectional in which Griffith and Hammond play in case the schools are reinstated by the court on Monday. Griffith and Hammond had their seasons suspended by the IHSAA after the two schools participated in a brawl on February 7th.
The current draw includes Hammond Clark vs. Lighthouse CPA on Tuesday at 6 p.m., Hammond Gavit vs. Bowman Academy on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Gary Roosevelt vs. the game 1 winner. The championship was at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The revised draw would have Griffith-Lighthouse CPA on Thursday, Hammond Gavit vs. Roosevelt at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by Bowman Academy vs. Hammond. At 6 p.m. Saturday, Clark vs. game 1 winner, followed by the winners of games 2 and 3. The title game would be Monday, March 9.
The situation puts Lighthouse CPA, Bowman, Gary Roosevelt and Clark in a tough spot with the uncertainty. Gary Roosevelt is the sectional favorite with Griffith on the sidelines.
Many believe the IHSAA penalty was too harsh on Griffith and Hammond. There is a good chance that the court reinstates Griffith and Hammond on Monday because of that fact.
