The marquee game of the first round at Martinsville was the host against Terre Haute South. Martinsville had a 15-6 record before the match-up while Terre Haute South was 16-7. The game lost a little luster as sophomore guard Jaylen Minnett out due to injury for South. He averaged 18 points per game this year.

Early on, it did not look like South was going to miss Minnett. The Braves jumped out to an early lead behind the play of junior Matt Deady and freshman DeAvion Washington. It was 15-9 Terre Haute South mid-way through the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Martinsville behind the play of Gannon Myers and Keegan Northern. Myers scored 10 first half points on his way to a game-high 21 points. Northern scored five of his 13 points in the second quarter.

Martinsville continued to play well in the third quarter. Terre Haute South made plays to stay in the game but they were unable to get over the hump to take the lead. It was only a two possession game with a couple minutes remaining before Martinsville pulled away late.

Martinsville won 69-57. Myers led Martinsville with 21, Northern had 13. Josh Bertelsen added nine points. Zach Anderson had eight, Logan Ratts had six and many hustle plays. Matt Deady led Terre Haute South with 14 while Washington had 13.

Brownsburg will play Terre Haute North in the first game Friday followed by Martinsville against Mooresville.

It has been a rough season for Plainfield as it entered sectional play. The Quakers were hoping to turn around the season with a sectional run. Mooresville did not allow that to happen Wednesday night. The Pioneers used a big three quarter to pull away from Plainfield.

Plainfield stayed in the game for two quarters. Mooresville had an eleven point at halftime but it could have been more. The Pioneers were getting good opportunities and not cashing them in. Junior guard Landon Harder played well throughout for Mooresville. He scored nine of his 17 points in the first half.

Mooresville outscored Plainfield 22-10 in the third quarter. Luke Kenney did the damage inside while KC Earls and Harder scored on the perimeter.

Mooresville won 63-43. They will play Martinsville in the second game on Friday. Mooresville was led by Harder, Earls had 13 while Kenney added nine and Lane Weaver had eight. Max Kurkowski led Plainfield with 12 points.
