The Indianapolis Star named Homestead senior Caleb Swanigan the 2015 Mr. Basketball. The honor comes as no surprise as he was the favorite since moving up to the 2015 last spring. Swanigan led Homestead to the 4A state title this season.
The undecided post player averaged 22.6 points and 13.7 rebounds this season. He was as consistent as a player can be. Homestead ventured out of state a couple times to play national teams and Swanigan dominated those games at a high level. He finished with more than 1,600 points and 1,000 rebounds despite only being at Homestead for three seasons.
Caleb Swanigan is expected to make his college decision at the Nike Hoop Summit this week. His final seven schools include Arizona, California, Chicago State, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and Purdue. There is no school that has emerged as a lock to land Swanigan at this point.
Swanigan is the first Fort Wayne native to capture the award since Deshaun Thomas won it in 2010.
