I went to Indianapolis Tech High School last Wednesday to see Trey Lyles and the rest of the talented freshmen that Tech has brought in. Lyles went coast to coast and finished the play with a dunk. A play that would have been impressive for a senior at his size, ridiculous for a kid that hasn't finished a grading period in high school yet.
Lyles surprised me by committing to Indiana University Sunday night. I figured he would wait to commit. I was way off when he became Indiana University's second verbal commitment for the 2014 class. He joins James Blackmon, Jr. who committed to IU earlier this month. Coach Crean has obviously made it a priority to lock up the most talented players in Indiana as quickly as possible. Coach Crean attended a few of Lyles' middle school games last year and then was one of the few college coaches that watched the Spiece Indy Heat 2014 group in July this summer.
The 2014 group is really talented and they might have more size than recent Indiana classes. It will be interesting how it all unfolds when they are done with high school...3 and a half years from now.
