Most games that I attend, during the high school season, have at least one Division I prospect that I know prior to the game. This game I knew it was unlikely to see any D1 prospects but Gavit did have a couple of players in Cedric Smith and Aveeno Nasiloski that I wanted to see. I knew Chesterton was a young team. They were really hurt by losing Mitch McGary to prep school.
Chesterton struggled to rebound and to handle Gavit's pressure early. Aveeno Nasiloski, 6'3" senior forward, dominated the boards early and scored off of offensive rebounds. Gavit was forcing turnovers, but Chesterton hurt themselves against the pressure the majority of the time. Gavit took a 28-21 lead to halftime.
Chesterton did a much better job of finding open players against the press in the second half especially in the third quarter. They started to attack the basket and made Gavit pay for trying to pressure them. Chesterton also did a much better job of getting bodies on Nasiloski and Smith to keep them off the boards. Chesterton surged ahead for a 38-35 lead after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Cedric Smith, 6'6" forward, tried into more of a play maker. He was handling the ball and trying help defenders then hitting teammates for easy baskets. He also was more assertive going to the rim and looking to score.
Chesterton junior point guard KeMonte Price kept Chesterton going by attacking the Gavit press. He made some big shots and some nice passes that led to baskets for teammates. Price wasn't very aggressive in the first half though. It was almost a "too little, too late" type of effort from him.
Gavit ended up making a couple more plays down the stretch and escaped with a 52-51 victory.

Cedric Smith, 6'6" senior forward Gavit- I liked Smith's height and length with the ability to make plays. He was loose with the ball at times and if he expects to play on the wing at the next level he will have to tighten that up. Smith also took a few too many outside shots for my liking. He had a lot of success when he was getting into the lane though either scoring or racking up assists. I don't think he is quite a good enough athlete to play the 3 in the D2 conference around here. He looks like he could help a number of NAIA teams though.
KeMonte Price, 5'10" junior point guard Chesterton-Price is Chesterton's most skilled player. He is a good ball handler and usually makes good decisions with the ball. Outside shooting isn't his strength, but he has a nice pull up mid-range game. Price is quick, but not lightning quick. If he continues to develop his shooting, Price should be a D2/NAIA prospect next year.
Aveeno Nasiloski, 6'3" senior forward Gavit- he was Gavit's workhorse. He was always getting offensive rebounds and scoring on the put back. I don't think his game will translate too well to college unless he can play an undersized power forward spot. His motor was impressive and also seemed to be pretty tough.
Cole Teal, 6'1" freshmen guard Chesterton- Didn't play much varsity, but his shot looks good. Teal didn't look like a spectacular athlete, but might develop into a solid one. I'm not sure how much he will contribute for Chesterton this year. The experience should allow him to be successful in the next couple of years though.
