Brownsburg has three freshmen on the varsity this year. Their would-be best player Torrey Nibbs was cut from the team because he didn't attend June activities and didn't shoot during football season. Fishers has a lot of height on their roster. Three guys over 6'7" play major minutes for them. On paper, it looked like Fishers would win easily but I wanted to check in on some players for both teams.
The first half was very sloppy with both teams turning the ball over. The game struggled to get into a rhythm because of the turnovers. Jaylon Brown had some nice explosive moves and finishes. Brown looks like he is going to be a nice guard down the road. Ryan Rebholz was also active in the first half for Fishers. He didn't shoot it as well as he normally does (only 3-9 in the half). His strength and ball handling must improve to play at the next level. Fishers had a 25-14 lead at half time.
The second half was when Fishers started to play much better. J.P. Pena started to knock down the shots that he was missing in the first half. Pena is a nice little guard. Probably a small college prospect because he isn't the quickest or most athletic guard, but he is very skilled. Pena's 2012 classmate Joe Retic also made some nice plays. He didn't dominate one area of the game, but he did a little bit of everything.
Fishers held on for a 54-40 victory. Junior Mycah Whetstone, 6'2" guard, lead Brownsburg in scoring with 14 points.

Jarran Lands 6'4" SF Brownsburg 2014 Lands did a lot of ball handling and showed the ability to handle it pretty well. He did have a handful of turnovers mostly from forcing passes to teammates that weren't open. He looks like a good athlete and is very well built for a freshmen. Lands looks physically mature so he might be done growing. I don't think he is a can't miss high-major prospect, but he has a good chance of being really good. Especially if he keeps developing into a SG and becomes a lights out shooter.
Tyler Alderman 6'9" C Fishers 2012 Alderman is a very skilled big man. He has a nice shooting stroke, soft touch in the post, and passes the ball well. The downside is that he isn't very aggressive or physical. Brownsburg did a good job of pushing him out of the post and getting around his soft seals to get steals. He would be a borderline high-major prospect if he played with more toughness and aggressiveness. Right now, he is a mid-major prospect.
Jaylon Brown 6'0" PG Fishers 2013 I'm a big Jaylon Brown fan. His explosiveness and athleticism can't be taught. He can absolutely fly and it is an effortless jump. He shoots it pretty well from the outside, but isn't great yet. Ball handling could use some improvement especially his passing if he is going to play at the mid-major level.
Ryan Rebholz 6'7" SF Fishers 2011 Rebholz is known as a shooter and rightfully so. His length allows him to get his shot off over smaller defenders. Rebholz is pretty thin and hasn't always shown the willingness to do the dirty work of rebounding. I believe he can play at the D2/NAIA level because of his shooting ability and length, but he will have to rebound and handle the ball better especially with his left hand at that level.
J.P. Pena 6'1" CG Fishers 2012 Pena is a very good high school player. He can handle the ball, shoots it well from the outside and especially mid-range, also can get into the lane. Pena isn't the best athlete, but he has some quickness to him and has decent strength. More than likely a small college prospect because of his skill and toughness will allow him to get the job done at that level.
Dakota Slaughter 6'7" PF Fishers 2011 I know Slaughter played football for the state champion this year. He brings that football toughness to the basketball court. Slaughter is a good rebounder and a good athlete. I don't think his skills are all that great, but I'm sure a lot of D2/NAIA programs could use his size, strength, and athleticism.
Darayl Jordan 6'3" SF Brownsburg 2011 Jordan basically played as a power forward most of the game. He did most of his damage inside either rebounding or scoring in the paint. He is a pretty good athlete and worked hard. I would say he is mostly an NAIA prospect.
Kyle Thompson 6'6" C Brownsburg 2014 Thompson didn't get too many minutes, but the freshmen looked like he is built pretty well. We will have to follow his progress in the upcoming years.
Joe Retic 6'4" SF Fishers 2012 Retic is a skilled "glue guy" type of player. He is a good athlete, pretty strong, passes the ball well. He just does anything the team needs. Retic also showed a nice shooting touch from the outside and finished a lay-up against tough contact. I'm not sure he is quite to the D1 level, but could be a nice addition to a lot of D2/NAIA programs.
