First game of the season for Chatard due to them being perennial threat to make the state championship in football. Compare that to Scecina playing it's fourth game of the year. Main reason for going to the game was to see Joe Fagan of Chatard and to see if anyone else had college basketball potential.
Fagan came out and played well in the first quarter. He had 9 points in the quarter. Andrew Tegarden, 6'0" PG 2011, caught my eye with his defensive pressure and how he moved the ball to his teammates. Tegarden isn't a great scorer but his shooting form is good. Chatard led after the first quarter 15-8.
It was all Jake Miller, 6'0" CG 2011, for Chatard in the second quarter. Literally, he scored all 7 of the Chatard points in the quarter. Scecina increased their defensive intensity and it looked like it might be game. They couldn't cut into the lead though and it was 22-15 Chatard at the half.
The third quarter is when the wheels fell off for Scecina. Greg Gardner, 6'4" SF 2012 Chatard, hit a couple of 3's in the quarter. Overall, Gardner did not have a good shooting night. I really liked the way he played though and it was easy to see he is a much better shooter than his results tonight. Chatard forced a lot of turnovers and finished the plays with great passing.
Chatard cruised in the fourth quarter for the 54-34 victory.

Joe Fagan 6'4 SF 2013 Chatard Fagan didn't have his best shooting night, but ended up with 13 points and 7 rebounds. I like his passing ability although there are times when he should have been looking to finish the play instead of forcing the "extra" pass. Fagan isn't an explosive athlete but he has solid quickness and is pretty strong for his age. He doesn't have the quickest release right now, but overall his form is pretty good and consistent. Fagan is definitely at his best when he is getting to the paint and making shots in the mid-range.
Greg Gardner 6'4 SF 2012 Chatard Like I said above, I really like how he plays. He hustled and got on the floor a couple of times. Gardner is always getting his feet set before the pass comes and has a quick release because of it. Gardner is really good laterally on defense. If he would do a little bit more off the dribble, he would be a low-major prospect. Right now, he doesn't look to drive at all. Gardner did make a really nice cut to the basket when the defense turned their head so he has some basketball IQ. I see him as a good D2/NAIA prospect right now that could develop into a D1 prospect.
Jake Miller 6'0 CG 2011 Chatard Miller is a heady guard that can shoot it from the outside really well. He is more of a undersized SG than a PG. I think he could be really good at the D3 or NAIA level. He has some quickness especially laterally. Miller is also crafty when he gets into the lane and finishes more than you would think at his height.
Andrew Tegarden 6'0 PG 2011 Chatard Tegarden is a pure point guard that wants to distribute the ball. He is a good defender especially on the ball. Tegarden looked like a good shooter although he didn't have many attempts. Off my first look, he seems like he could be a nice D3 point guard.
Nick Nimtz 6'7 C 2011 Chatard Nimtz is very raw. It doesn't look like he has much experience. He did some good things though. He had a couple of good rebounds, blocked a number of shots although playing limited minutes. Nimtz could be a guy that a D3 or NAIA school takes a chance on and tries to develop him.
Garret Young 6'6 PF 2011 Scecina Young is listed at 6'7 but is closer to 6'5. He has some skills in the mid-range jumper area and moves pretty well. My first impression is that he is a D3/NAIA prospect depending on his grades.
