First time seeing Westfield this year while it was it was my third viewing of Broad Ripple. Broad Ripple was 9-1 entering the game and they retired the numbers of all their Indiana All-Stars before the game. Mike Woodson and Jeff Robinson were two notables while George Hill was not able to attend due to the NBA schedule. Westfield was just 2-6 before this game.
The referees set the tone right from the start in this one. Whistle after whistle stopped play and the rhythm of the game. Indiana University 2012 verbal commit Ron Patterson got off to a very cold start. He was just 0-4 from the field and 2-2 from the line in the first quarter. Overall, the energy and intensity wasn't very high to start this game. It was tied at 11 after the first quarter.
The pace picked up a tiny bit in the second stanza, but not by much. The referees were still calling every touch foul and the players did not adjust well enough. No one really stood out offensively for either team. Westfield's Wade Burtron did some good things and was able to get to the basket. Armond Patterson was able to do some damage in the paint and accounted for 7 points and 5 rebounds in the first half. Westfield took a 27-25 lead to the half.
Ron Patterson knocked down a couple of nice shots in the third and it looked like he and the Broad Ripple Rockets would start to take over the game. Westfield was able to break the full court pressure and convert a few layups to keep the game close. Aaron Payne started to score more as well.
Towards the end of the third quarter there was a little incident between Ron Patterson and teammate Darian Fitzgerald. The two were arguing back in forth heading to a time-out huddle when Patterson two-hand shoved Fitzgerald. Coach Scott Hicks then benched Patterson for the last 2 minutes of the quarter and then the first 3 minutes of the fourth quarter. Patterson rarely sits for Broad Ripple.
That seemed to break the rhythm that Broad Ripple was finally able to establish. Burtron also hit a 50 footer at the third quarter buzzer to cut the Rockets lead to 43-40.
The final quarter was a much higher pace than the first 3. Maurice Fuller stepped up very big in the fourth. He hit a 3-pointer that really hurt Broad Ripple's chances. Fuller also was clutch at the free-throw line when they started to extend the game and foul. Behind Fuller and Burtron, Westfield was able to get the road victory by the score of 61-57.

Ron Patterson 6'3 SG 2012 Broad Ripple
Obviously, tonight was not a great night for Patterson. He only had 11 points on a cold shooting night. I don't take too much from the shoving incident, it wasn't a punch or anything and it shows his competitiveness although I don't know the whole story behind why it happened.
Aaron Payne 6'2 PG 2012 Broad Ripple
Payne is more of a combo guard right now. He handles the ball well and passes it really well. His outside shooting is inconsistent, but is really good in the mid-range and in the paint. If he was a more consistent shooter, he would be a LM prospect. Right now, he would be really good at the D2/NAIA level with his quickness and ability to guard multiple positions.
Maurice Fuller 6'3 SG 2011 Westfield
Fuller was the main reason why I wanted to go to this game. I wanted to see him against good, athletic guards and see how he played against them. He played very little in the first half after he started the game, I'm not sure what that was about. I do not believe he was in foul trouble. The second half he played pretty much the whole time. He has some quickness to him although not super explosive. He shoots the ball pretty well off the dribble and is a good shooter off the catch. Definitely a good D2/NAIA prospect.
Armond Patterson 6'5 PF 2011 Broad Ripple
Patterson is a banger inside and plays with a good motor. He is fairly athletic although he doesn't jump out of the gym. He could be a good addition for most NAIA/JUCO programs.
Wade Burtron 6'3 SF 2012 Westfield
Burtron did a lot of things well in this game. Not a great athlete but yet he was able to get to the rim against good athletes. He is very skilled in all areas, perimeter and inside. Likely a D3/NAIA prospect next year.
Jake Norris 6'3 SG 2011 Westfield
Norris basically plays point guard for Westfield. Not the greatest ball handler, but he sees the floor well. He defended Patterson most of the night and did a good job of keeping him in front of him. He will rebound and has some toughness to him. Definitely a good D3/NAIA prospect.
