Third time seeing Northwest this year while it was my second time seeing Cathedral. This was the quarterfinals of the city tournament. It proved to be the best game of the quarterfinal action.
Northwest came out on fire from deep. Larry Banks and Dion'dre Starks each hit two 3's early for Northwest. Starks also had an old fashioned 3-point play but he received a technical foul for taunting afterwards. Northwest led 21-14 after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was pretty much all Cathedral. Chandler Thomas had a great half for Cathedral. Thomas had 16 points and 4 rebounds. He was attacking the bigs of Northwest. Behind the play of Thomas, Cathedral held a 35-33 lead at halftime.
Collin Hartman came alive a little bit in the third quarter. He had 8 points in the quarter after only 5 points in the first half. The Cathedral point guards don't do a good enough job getting him the ball. Hartman is a great passer along with his shooting ability. The ball needs to be in his hands more and the Cathedral point guards get a bit shot happy at times. Jared Drew also became more active in the second half. I think Drew either took 1 shot or zero. He has a lot of talent, but hasn't had a very good year production wise thus far. Cathedral led 48-46 after three quarters of play.
Donnell Minton owned the fourth quarter. Cathedral could not stop him from getting into the lane. He either finished the play himself or got fouled and knocked down the free-throws. Thomas had a big rebound put back plus the free-throw to cut the Northwest lead to 1 but then he committed a foul on a block attempt. After the play, he was whistled for a technical foul and it was costly in the close game. Northwest went on to win 69-62. The loss was Cathedral's first on the season.

Lonnie McElwain 6'10 C 2011 Northwest
McElwain did a lot of good things. His touch is very good from the free-throw line and from the 6 feet range. His skill set is very raw. Combine that rawness with his lack of strength and you have a project. It seems like he plays hard and goes after rebounds but is usually out muscled. McElwain is a very good juco/D2 prospect now with a chance to be a D1 player in a couple of years.
Dion'dre Starks 6'2 SG 2011 Northwest
Starks is a good outside shooter that has some explosiveness to his game. He made some intelligent anticipation plays on the defensive end as well. He could be very good at the D2/NAIA level or possibly a junior college prospect.
Larry Banks 6'4 PF 2011 Northwest
Banks is a very good outside shooter. He is also solidly built so he can bang inside. He could be a face-up PF at the D2/NAIA level. He could be especially good as a pick and pop 4 man.
Donnell Minton 6'0 PG 2012 Northwest
Minton dominated the fourth quarter with his quickness. He was definitely the quickest guy on the floor with the ball. He also showed that he could finish in the lane. Likely a D2/NAIA/JUCO prospect.
Collin Hartman 6'7 SF 2013 Cathedral
Hartman is becoming one of the most dangerous outside shooters in the state. He gets his shot off quickly and it is never offline. He and Kellen Dunham are probably my favorite two shooters in Indiana high school basketball right now. That being said, I wish Cathedral would get him the ball in his hands more. He has great court vision and is unselfish so you can run the offense through him.
Chandler Thomas 6'5 PF 2011 Cathedral
I have loved how Thomas has played this season. In the past, he has tried to be a perimeter player when his skills are better inside. It seems like he has embraced the fact that he can be a great undersized four man at the next level. He plays with a great motor and attacks bigger post players. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor for a dribble or two in a straight line. Thomas could be a great player at the D2/NAIA level.
Jared Drew 6'5 SF 2012 Cathedral
Drew is a good athlete, long, strong, can handle the ball, and can shoot it. Why hasn't he been more productive this year? I really have no idea other than the fact that he plays on a talented Cathedral team and the point guards take a few too many shots. He should definitely be a 15ppg+ type of player.
Colin Barthel 6'6 C 2014 Cathedral
The freshmen got some solid minutes especially in the first half. It looks like he moves well, understands the game, and has good form on his shot. His only bucket of the game came off a pump fake then laid it in. He will be a player to watch for D1's.
