Cathedral @ Roncalli

First time seeing Roncalli this season. Roncalli senior shooting guard Collin Lynch recently committed to Palm Beach Atlantic University. This was my third time seeing Cathedral this year. I saw them play Northwest (game report) and Broad Ripple (game report) earlier this season.

The first quarter was low scoring. The stars for both teams Collin Hartman for Cathedral and Ryan Weber for Roncalli each went scoreless in the opening quarter. Cathedral led 11-9 after one period.

Defensive intensity remained high in the second quarter. Both teams had to work for every basket that they got. Chandler Thomas continues to have a good senior year for Cathedral and had 8 points and 4 rebounds in the half. It looked like Cathedral might start pulling away and were up 24-17 at the half.

Cathedral was cruising along but they were unable to create a large lead. 5'7" senior, spark plug Jimmy Baker was able to penetrate and draw defenders allowing David Heckman and Micahel Clements to convert inside. Heckman and Clements each had six third quarter points mainly because of Baker's driving ability. Roncalli trailed 41-32 heading to the final quarter.

Roncalli stayed within striking distance most of the fourth quarter. With 2:45 left in the game, Roncalli was down 5 and had the ball. They were unable to get a basket though. Roncalli would never get closer than 6 points the rest of the game. Cathedral would go on to the 57-49 victory.

Collin Hartman was held to 9 points on 2-10 shooting from the field but did have 11 rebounds. Chandler Thomas led Cathedral with 14 points and also had 7 rebounds. Jared Drew had 9 points while Brandon Smith added 10 points.

Ryan Weber had 10 points on 4-13 shooting and had 11 rebounds. David Heckman lead Roncalli with 17 points.

Collin Hartman 6'6 SF 2013 Cathedral

Hartman didn't have his best game only shooting 2-10. I liked how he rebounded though. I would like the ball in his hands more because there are stretches where he doesn't see the ball for 4 or 5 possessions. He has the ability to handle the ball like a point guard especially with his passing skills.

Ryan Weber 6'6 SF 2012 Roncalli

Weber is one-dimensional to me. He can only shoot it from the outside. He can put the ball on the floor for a dribble or two but he isn't going to get to the rim very often. Weber did rebound the ball pretty well and showed some toughness while doing that. LM prospect until he becomes for versatile.

David Heckman 6'7 PF 2012 Roncalli

Heckman does some nice things. Going to his left shoulder in the post he is really good, right shoulder not so much. I would like him to add muscle and become more aggressive though. He showed that he can put the ball on the floor for a few dribbles and a nice touch from 15 feet. LM-/D2 prospect right now.

Chandler Thomas 6'5 PF 2011 Cathedral

Thomas is dominating the inside for Cathedral this year. I like his motor and toughness. He isn't afraid of scoring over bigger opponents. He is going to be a very good D2/NAIA PF for some program.

Jared Drew 6'5 SF 2012 Cathedral

Drew just has not fit in with Cathedral this year. It seems like he is struggling to understand the shot selection that Coach Fagan wants. He never seems confident on the court and he isn't shooting the ball well. He is also struggling to get to the rim off the dribble consistently.

Michael Clements 6'7 PF 2013 Roncalli

Clements didn't play big time minutes but he seems like someone to watch the next year or so. He showed a nice touch inside and also finished against contact which is always a good sign for a young big guy.
