On Monday Purdue received a commitment from Illinois standout Kendall Stephens. Stephens chose Purdue over Illinois, Northwestern, and Wisconsin. Tuesday night Basil Smotherman joined Purdue's 2013 recruiting class as well. Smotherman also joins Fort Wayne Northrop's Bryson Scott as well as Stephens in the 2013 class.
Smotherman is a 6'5" shooting guard from Heritage Christian in Indianapolis. Smotherman has been playing a lot of point guard this season for his high school team, but he is better off the ball. He has good length, athleticism, and is a very good shooter. To take his game to an even higher level, he will need to improve going to his right hand and his overall assertiveness on the offensive end.
