First time seeing the Justin Gant led Terre Haute North squad this year. Fourth time seeing Cathedral this season. Check out their previous game reports against Roncalli, Northwest, and Broad Ripple.
Chandler Thomas started off the game by hitting a 3. Thomas hasn't played on the perimeter much at all this year and only did so to start the game tonight because of senior night. I wanted to see Thomas go against Indiana State-bound Justin Gant in the paint and he did for most of the game. Gant picked up two fouls in the first quarter because of Thomas taking it right at him, but played the half nonetheless. Cathedral held a slim 12-10 lead after one quarter.
Jared Drew and Collin Hartman had more of an impact on the game in the second quarter. Each would score 7 first half points. Drew had a nice game even though he didn't shoot the ball particularly well. Matt O'Leary came off the bench early to replace Calvin Blank (2013) who might have been injured but I didn't see anything. Blank was in street clothes for the second half. I'm not sure if he was fighting an injury and then decided he couldn't play or what. Matt O'Leary played well in Blank's absence. Cathedral had a four point lead at the half.
Brandon Smith broke out in the third quarter. The Lynn College commit scored 10 third quarter points on his way to a game-high 17. His scoring held Terre Haute North at bay. Cathedral would take a 44-39 lead to the fourth period.
The fourth quarter was a grind. Not many points were scored by either time. Neither team could get many good looks on the offensive end. Drew scored 6 points in the quarter on his to 15 for the game. Chandler Thomas added 6 points as well in the quarter. Terre Haute North had some good looks down the stretch but couldn't get any to fall from behind the arc. Cathedral won 57-48.

Justin Gant 6'8 PF 2011 Terre Haute North
Gant had a solid game. The Indiana State commit could have been stronger with the ball a few times especially on drives though. He also passed up a couple of catch and shoot opportunities where he wasn't ready to shoot on the catch. He is definitely going to need to work on his strength/toughness to be successful in the Missouri Valley.
Calvin Blank 6'5 PF 2013 Terre Haute North
Like I mention above, Blank only played a few minutes to start the game and then was in street clothes for the second half. I'm not sure if he was injured or sick or what. He looks solid though with an inside/outside skill set. I would like to see him more, but I would put him on the MM/LM fringe because of his lack of athleticism.
Matt O'Leary 6'6 PF 2012 Terre Haute North
O'Leary is a very good shooter with a quick release. He got his feet set quickly after some flare screens, but I didn't get a chance to see how well he shoots off curls or regular down screens where he has to get his shoulders turned quickly. LM/D2/NAIA borderline right now. I would like him to become stronger and tougher on the boards/defense before I would recommend him to a D1 school. Very good shooter though that can put the ball on the floor for a few dribbles in the half court.
Jake Newton 6'4 SF 2011 Terre Haute North
Newton has a quick, consistent outside shot. Nice length and not a bad defender...he could help a lot of NAIA/D3 programs.
