Morristown @ Eastern Hancock

First look at Morristown and Eastern Hancock this season. Morristown is led by junior Dylan Langkabel. Langkabel transferred out to St. Benedict's in New Jersey to start the year, but returned back to Morristown quickly. Eastern Hancock is led by senior Dustin Smith. Smith has exploded for a couple of 40 point games this season.

Dustin Smith started off the game by hitting his first two shots and that would set the tone for how Eastern Hancock would shoot in the first quarter. Steven Stunda, Victor Vincz, and Zach Kissick would all shoot well in the first half for Eastern Hancock. Things were completely different for Morristown as they struggled on the offensive end. Dylan Langkabel was just 0-3 from the field in the first quarter and had limited touches as the EH defense was focused on not letting him catch the ball. Eastern Hancock had a commanding 19-6 lead after one period.

The second quarter was similar to the first but Morristown was able to use a late run to keep the game close. Langkabel was able to get free in transition to get a couple of mid-range jumpers. Zach Kissick would finish the first half with 11 points including three 3's for Eastern Hancock. Morristown was down 28-22 at the half.

The third quarter is where the Eastern Hancock lead really opened up. Dustin Smith became more aggressive after not scoring in the second quarter. Smith would get a couple of "and 1's" plus a 3 in the quarter. Morristown kept trying to get the ball to Langkabel, but they were forcing passes that led to turnovers. It was 49-33 going to the fourth.

The fourth is when things started to get exciting. Morristown switched Langkabel to the primary ball handler role so they wouldn't have a problem getting him the ball. This worked tremendously well early in the final quarter. Langkabel knocked down a couple of shots and then he really got going from deep. I don't have the exact number Langkabel scored in the fourth, but I believe it was in the 17-20 point range.

With about two minutes left in the game, Eastern Hancock's lead was 8 points. That is around the time that Eastern Hancock started to double team Langkabel even if he didn't have the ball. EH forced someone else to step up for Morristown and no one was able to. Morristown made a good coaching adjustment to make Langkabel the main ball handler. Eastern Hancock then made a good strategy move to make someone else on Morristown beat them other than Langkabel.

Eastern Hancock won the game going away 73-61. Langkabel finished with 30 points in the losing effort. Zach Kissick led Eastern Hancock with 21, Dustin Smith added 18 for Eastern.

Dylan Langkabel 6'3 SG 2012 Morristown

Langkabel struggled a bit for 3 quarters and then showed what he can do especially shooting the ball from deep. He has the ability to get his shot off quickly and in tight spaces. Langkabel put the ball on the floor effectively in the fourth quarter, but it is still not something he is going to do much of against great athletes. He couldn't keep Eastern Hancock's Zach Kissick in front of himself but Kissick is quick. Langkabel is going to have a hard time defend at the next level, but his shooting ability can still make him a MM prospect.

Dustin Smith 6'1 SG 2011 Eastern Hancock

Smith had a solid game. He didn't take a bunch of shots and he didn't touch the ball much in the first half. He is a good shooter, with above average quickness. His weaknesses are that he doesn't handle the ball at a high level, he rarely goes left, and he needs more muscle to play an undersized SG position. If he adds 10-15 pounds of muscle in the upper body, I think his game really improves. Right now, Smith is a LM- prospect.

Zach Kissick 5'11 PG 2011 Eastern Hancock

Kissick is a quick point guard that handles the ball well. Outside shooting is inconsistent, but was on tonight. With his strength, quickness, and skill set he could be a very good D3/NAIA prospect.

Victor Vincz 5'10 PG 2013 Eastern Hancock

Vincz is just a sophomore. He is built very slight, but he has very good quickness and shoots it well especially in the mid-range. He will be a guy to keep an eye on. His ceiling is probably D2/NAIA unless he grows.
