Indiana teams didn’t fare too well in the Pitt Jamfest this year. Eric Gordon Central Stars (17's) were without Ronnie Johnson and Patrick Ingram due to prom. They won their pool but lost in the first round of the gold bracket.
SYF 17’s were upset by a Montgomery Knights (PA) team in pool play which sent them to the silver bracket. SYF 17’s would go on to win the silver bracket behind strong play from Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGary, and Jeremiah Jones.
Derrick Rose Uptempo (17’s) won their pool but were bounced in the first round of the gold bracket as well. The most exciting news of the weekend was that Kendall Waters played for D-Rose Uptempo. Waters’ career was in jeopardy after back problems sidelined him in February. Hopefully, he stays healthy and has a nice career.
Indiana Elite One (17’s) lost in the championship game of the platinum bracket by 1 in overtime. Ryan Weber continues to put together a great spring early on.
Eric Gordon 16’s were ranked as the best 16U AAU team in the nation by Five-Star last week but were eliminated early in the gold bracket Saturday night.
SYF 16’s won their pool and drew a tough DC Assault Gold squad in the first round. It was a close game but Trey Boykins was unstoppable. Boykins was on fire from the outside and is athletic enough to get to the rim anytime he wants as well.
Indiana Elite One 15’s won their pool as well. They played a very good Team Takeover team in the first round. It was back and forth for most of the game but Team Takeover made some big plays down the stretch to escape with the win.
Eric Gordon 15’s walked through their pool. They had a huge jump in competition when they faced Team Takeover-Canada in the first round. Jaquan Lyle and Sean Sellers were impressive but Team Takeover-Canada was too deep for them. Cassidy Ryan shined for Team Takeover-Canada.
SYF 15’s also won their pool but were met by an impressive Team Loaded. I watched the second half of the game between SYF and Team Loaded. Team Loaded could have competed and done quite well at the 17U level. They were big, strong, athletic, and skilled. Indianapolis area players Justin Baker (Tech), Michael Jones (Tech), and Jaraan Lands (Brownsburg) all played with SYF. SYF is normally a northwest Indiana group.

2011
Michael Albrecht 6’0 PG Crown Point (SYF Players)- Albrecht said he is pretty much set on going to prep school next year unless he gets a late D1 offer. Albrecht had to be a scorer in high school but he is best as a pure point guard. He sees the floor extremely well and is quick enough to draw help. He didn’t shoot much this weekend but he is a good shooter. Definitely a LM+ prospect.
Adonis Filer 6’2 CG Bishop Noll (SYF Players)- Filer looked great at times this weekend and he also looked bad at times. He looks best in transition when he gets to the rim and finishes. He is a great athlete that can finish well above the rim. He’s also a good shooter when he gets his feet set and has rhythm to his shot. He gets in trouble by over-penetrating and jumping to make passes. Filer also isn’t very good when he is in a hurry to get his feet set on an outside shot. He is more of a SG than a PG at this point. Filer confirmed that he is heading to Brewster Academy next year. MM prospect
Jeremiah Jones 6’3 SG Merrillville (SYF Players)- Jones was solid this weekend. He’s likely going to Maine Central Institute unless it falls through at the last minute. The reason why he is going to prep school is to get High-Major interest. He will have to improve to garner that attention. Jones is a very good player that would be a good fit for most Mid-Majors.
2012
Mitch McGary 6’10 PF Brewster Academy (SYF Players)-Formerly of Chesterton and the class of 2011. Now McGary is at Brewster Academy and a part of the 2012 class. McGary did some great things this weekend in terms of showing his versatility. He went coast to coast a few times, was extremely active on the glass, made some good passes, and was a presence in the paint. McGary needs to work on finishing with power. He rarely goes 2 feet, 2 hands to finish the play through a defender. McGary will try to finish above or around a defender before he tries to go through them for an “and 1”. If he added that to his game, he would be an All-American candidate. Right now, he is more in the 25-40 range nationally.
Jake Kretzer 6’5 SF Waverly (OH) (All-Ohio Red)- This was my first look at Kretzer and I came away impressed. The game I saw was against DC Assault Gold. So there were plenty of high major and mid major prospects on the court and Kretzer played well. His biggest strength is his shooting ability. Quick and consistent release allows him to be deadly from outside. He made some nice cuts away from the ball to get easy looks as well. From this one game, he looked MM+.
Stephen Hawkins 6’9 C Bowman Academy (SYF Players)-Hawkins is an intriguing prospect for me. One, he had to sit out the regular season for Bowman after he transferred from River Forest. Two, he has a very good fundamental base. Right now, he is extremely thin and doesn’t always play with great aggressiveness. He definitely needs to add 20-30 pounds but if he does that then I could see him as a very good MM prospect. He has a nice touch, can hit a 10-15 foot jumper, has some post moves, has a good feel for blocking shots, and always keeps the ball under his chin on rebounds.
Elijah Ray 6’5 PF Bowman Academy (SYF Players)- Ray is a tweener for the D1 level. He isn’t athletic enough to play the 3, not big enough for the 4. He can hit a catch and shoot 17 footer, but isn’t a very consistent shooter. Inside, he struggles to finish against size. Probably a stretch for the LM level right now.
Glenn Robinson III 6’6 SF Lake Central (SYF Players)- Robinson was impressive this weekend. He did most of his damage inside off of rebounds or just finding gaps in the defense. He also ran the floor well and got some big dunks. He’s a true 6’6 now that can play inside and outside. His range is still developing but coming along nicely. Michigan has a good one on the way!
Elijah Macon 6’8 PF Marion Franklin (OH) (All-Ohio Red)-Good motor, very active on the glass, pogo stick type leaper. Macon put the ball on the floor a couple times to attack the basket from the perimeter and did a good job with it. I didn’t see him take any outside shots. First impression was that he was a borderline HM prospect but likely a better fit for the MM level.
Mike Ford 6’4 SF Bowman Academy (SYF Players)-Sat out the first game of pool play with ice on his leg. He did play the rest of the tournament though. He has a lot of good tools…can put it on the floor and get to the rim, good outside shooter, nice length. Defensively, he looked lost this weekend. LM prospect.
Jordan Barham 6’3 SG University School (OH) (Ohio Shooting Stars)-Barham is a very good athlete with good length. Plus, he is pretty strong for the high school level. Barham also showed nice quickness on his drives. He finished well against contact a few times. First impression is that he is a MM+ prospect.
Kenny Kaminski 6’7 SF Medina (OH) (All-Ohio Red)-Kaminski played with Indiana Elite last year so I have seen him play a good amount. His game looks basically the same as the last time I saw him. He is a very good shooter with a quick release. I’m not sure what else he will be able to do at the HM level. Kaminski isn’t a very good athlete. Defensively, he will have to play a lot of the 4 at Michigan State.
D.J. Balentine 6’2 CG Kokomo (Eric Gordon Central Stars)- Played PG a lot this weekend because Ronnie Johnson was absent due to North Central’s prom. I like him a lot better as a SG than a PG. He’s a true 6’2 now and lacks the great lateral quickness to guard most PG’s at the next level. Although he isn’t very explosive, he consistently finds a way to get to the rim against great athletes. Balentine shoots it extremely well from the outside but he does take some tough 3’s off the dribble. I love him for the LM level and think he could be good at the MM level as well. Only offer right now is from IPFW with interest from Valpo, Ball State, Indiana State, and Cleveland State.
Jalen Pendleton 6’3 SG Evansville Bosse (Eric Gordon Central Stars)- Reportedly has been offered by Indiana State. Also, a college football prospect. Pendleton played with EG this weekend since Ronnie Johnson and Patrick Ingram were missing due to prom.
Tyler Alderman 6’9 PF Fishers (Indiana Elite One)- Alderman is very skilled, nice touch around the basket, can hit a 17-19 footer, passes well. He doesn’t like contact though and it kills him and limits his effectiveness. If he would physicall/aggressive, he would be a MM prospect easily. Right now, I’m not sure he can play D1 with how soft he is.
Torian Graham 6’3 SG Word of God (NC) (DC Assault Gold)-Very good athlete that jumps out of the gym. Also showed that he is a good shooter against All-Ohio Red. He didn’t dominate the game like I expected since he is being recruited by a host of high majors but he showed glimpses of what makes him a special player.
Jordan Goodman 6’8 SF Arlington Country Day (FL)(DC Assault Gold)- Goodman caught my eye by hitting a couple of outside shots early against All-Ohio Red. He also showed that he could handle the ball and get to the rim. He plays with a high motor on the boards and can score inside as well. One possible weakness that I saw on the first look is that he isn’t very physical. Definitely should be a good player for Rutgers.
2013
Mike Schlotman 6’1 PG Munster (SYF 16’s)- Schlotman was the pure point guard on Munster this year. Steady sophomore that set-up the Munster offense. I saw him play Saturday against DC Assault and he handled the pressure well. DC Assault had high major guards and Schlotman played well. I think he will end up being a D1 PG. At this point, he will likely end up at the LM level but possibly MM.
Nate Britt 5’11 PG Gonzaga College (DC) (DC Assault 17’s)-Absolute blur in the open court. He was able to push the ball against All-Ohio Red and get to the rim in transition. He finished with both hands and showed a nice outside stroke as well. Definitely a HM point guard.
Collin Wojcik 6’4 SF Andrean (SYF 16’s)- Wojcik is over-shadowed at Andrean by fellow sophomore Nick Davidson but Wojcik is a nice prospect as well. He shoots it extremely well from the outside. He doesn’t have much game off the dribble though. Wojcik is a decent athlete, but does struggle a bit defensively against good athletes. Likely a LM prospect right now.
2014
Jaquan Lyle 6’4 G Evansville Bosse (Eric Gordon 15’s)- Got a chance to see Lyle a lot lately. Overall, I am very impressed. His height, ball handling, and court vision allows him to dominate the 15U level. When he was guarded by players with decent size and athleticism, it cut down on his passing ability. He was able to score against the tough pressure though. Right now, he wants to do everything himself. He is surrounded by very good players on EG but he would rather do it himself. He got himself in trouble a few times trying to draw fouls on his shot. Lyle also got in the air a few times with nowhere to go with the ball. His body language is really poor right now on the court and on the bench. Lyle is definitely a HM prospect, but has some work to do.
Bryant McIntosh 6’2 CG New Castle (Eric Gordon 15’s)- I got a better look at McIntosh this weekend after seeing him last weekend. He’s combo guard at this point. He has nice size for a freshmen along with solid quickness. McIntosh is also an above average shooter. He had some problems handling double teams and traps against Team Takeover-Canada. Likely a low to mid-major prospect if he continues to develop.
Sean Sellers 6’5 SF Greensburg (Eric Gordon 15’s)-I’m quickly becoming a big fan of Sellers game. He is so versatile for a 6’5 freshmen. You don’t see that very often. Sellers finishes well with both hands, not afraid of contact, can handle the ball, has the quickness to get to the rim from the outside, is a good leaper. Outside is consistent but he has a low shooting pocket which forces his shot to be on the slow side. If he continues to grow and improve his quickness/explosiveness, he will be a HM prospect. All HM’s and MM’s should have him on their radar right now.
Perry Poindexter 6’6 PF North Central (Eric Gordon 15’s)-Poindexter’s upside is off the charts. He’s a true 6’6 right now. He runs well, has soft hands, nice touch around the basket, and is an extremely springy leaper for a young, big guy. Poindexter is a long ways from a HM prospect right now, but his improvement should be rapid over the next couple years.
Cassidy Ryan 6’7 SF Mount Carmel (Mississauga, ON Canada)(Team Takeover-Canada)- Ryan looks like Mike Bruesewitz from Wisconsin. Ryan does most of his damage on the inside with a nice touch and is a good leaper. He also showed the ability to rip/drive from the perimeter and use his athleticism. I was very impressed with Ryan. HM/MM borderline prospect on my first impression.
Tyler Black 6’5 PF Connersville (Eric Gordon 15’s)- The next Matt Howard? Probably not, but Black is a nice player. He is strong and well built. I’m not sure if he will continue grow which would likely limit his college potential. He will be a kid to watch for the next couple of years to see his development.
Quinten Snider 5’11 PG Ballard (KY) (Indiana Elite One 15’s)- I saw Snider play against a really good point for Team Takeover and Snider wasn’t quite as impressive as he was last week. He was still good, but failed to finish a couple of shots at the basket that he finished last week. I like his quickness and basketball IQ. I’m not sure he is quite as good as P.J. Thompson but Snider is at least 2 inches taller and maybe more. Outside shooting is comparable between Snider and Thompson. Both play with a high basketball IQ and both are very quick. Right now, I’d say Snider is a MM prospect and a possible HM candidate.
Kelan Martin 6’5 SF Ballard (KY) (Indiana Elite One 15’s)- I’m starting to really like Martin as a future prospect. He’s 6’5, strong, moves well, and can handle the ball. His production isn’t at a high level yet, but he has all the tools to be successful down the road.
Justin Brent 6’2 SG Speedway (Indiana Elite One 15’s)-Brent posted on twitter that he would like to get his college decision over with soon. I don’t see that happening. He doesn’t have any offers yet and I don’t think anyone is really close to pulling the trigger. He’s a good athlete at the 15U level but wouldn’t stick out as an elite athlete at the 16U or 17U level. He gets most of hoops at the rim. Outside shooting needs to become more consistent. I don’t see him developing into a HM prospect
