The adidas Spring Classic concluded on Sunday. The winners included Wisconsin Swing for 17 and under, Spiece Indy Ice-Thompson for 16 and under, and then Indiana Elite-Team Indiana for 15 and under. P.J. Thompson was great all weekend for Spiece Indy Ice on their way to the championship. I was also really impressed with the play and improvement of Jordan Garnett. Another player that was very impressive and under the radar was Xavier Ringo (2014). We have a complete break down of Ringo's play in our evaluations.
We have notes and evaluations on 55 players in this report. We also had 10 players in our Day 1 report and 14 in our Day 2 report.

2013
Alex Etherington 6’6” SF Hamilton Heights/Indiana Elite-South- I saw Etherington twice this weekend and he shot the ball pretty well. His shooting form and consistency has improved dramatically since last year. He has the size, athleticism, and strength to be a high-major player now he just needs to sure up his ball-handling and passing ability. If over the next year, he improves as much as he has in the past year-he will be a high-major prospect. He has a long ways to go, but he has shown he can improve at a rapid pace.
Andrew Dakich 6’0” PG Zionsville/Indiana Elite-South- Dakich isn’t an explosive player so as a point guard, he has to shoot it well and take care of the ball. In the past, he hasn’t shot it very well from the outside. He did shoot it well in the game that I observed him. Against very good athletes and pressure defense, he turns it over more than I would like. Right now, I have him as a low-major stretch.
Cullen Arnold 6’6” PF Washington/Indiana Elite-South- Arnold is a little bit awkward and timid, but he does some really nice things in spurts. He can shoot it pretty well from the outside and has a nice touch around the rim. He is also long and moves alright defensively. Low-major stretch/D2/NAIA type prospect.
2014
Isaiah Gooch 6’6” PF Bloomington South/Indiana Elite-Hawk- Gooch has a chance to be really good. He is very long and uses that length to rebound. Also helping his rebounding is his motor- he is always attacking rebounds. He seems well laterally and can defend on the perimeter. Gooch’s jump shot is a little awkward, but it is consistent and he has a high release on it so I think he will be ok with it although it might hurt his range. He needs to add some muscle and to continue to develop his face-up game. Mid-major/mid-major stretch down the road though.
Keaton Hendricks 6’5” SF Bloomington South/Indiana Elite-Hawk- Hendricks played aggressively for one of the few times this spring. I mention Friday night that I think he really excels in a structured system and I feel that is very much the case for his struggles this spring. He plays in a very structured and disciplined system at Bloomington South and that is what he is used to. He definitely has a mid-major skill set.
Michael Jones 6’4” SF Indianapolis Tech/Indiana Elite-Hawk- Jones has been one of the biggest disappointments so far this spring in my eyes. It isn’t just because he isn’t playing very well. The biggest thing for me is that his attitude and energy level has been awful. It is something that has been constant in his early career. He has the length and skill level to be really good, but his decision making, shot selection, and poor energy hold him back from reaching his potential right now.
Mangistu Deng 6’6” SF Mooseheart Prep/Indiana Elite-Hawk- Two things really stand out for Deng- his shooting ability and his length. He struggles handling the ball against pressure right now, but if he tightens up his handles he could be a really nice mid-major prospect.
Hakim Nyang 6’11” C Mooseheart Prep/Indiana Elite-Hawk- Nyang is about as raw as a basketball player can get. He struggles with positioning on defense and other areas because he is new to the game still plus is trying to learn the game in a different language than his own. His touch around the basket is pretty good though and he is about 7-foot.
P.J. Thompson 5’10” PG Brebeuf/Spiece Indy Ice- Thompson was the most impressive player on the weekend that I saw. He played at a very high level in every phase of the game. He shot it extremely well from the outside. He got into the lane and finishes or drew fouls. He made every pass with precision. The only thing holding him back from being a high-major prospect is his height. Thompson has every thing also to be able to compete at that level.
Daeshon Francis 6’2” SG Lawrence North/Spiece Indy Ice- Francis is a great athlete that will finish above the rim. He really thrives in the Indy Ice’s uptempo and pressing style. He can force turnovers with his quickness and toughness. He has really good body control when he is finishing around the rim. Outside shooting is his biggest weakness. Francis is a nice mid-major prospect although he might be a little undersized for the shooting guard position.
Jordan Garnett 6’5” F Warren Central/Spiece Indy Ice- This weekend was the best I’ve ever seen Garnett play and I have seen him a lot over the last couple of years. His perimeter game is really expanding. His outside shot is looking good and he is handling the ball much better than in the past. Garnett’s strength is his athleticism though. He can really get up and has good quickness. Right now, I would put him on the mid-major stretch/low-major borderline but he has a good chance to be a solid mid-major prospect if he continues to develop his perimeter game.
Michael Beaty 6’2” SG Ben Davis/Spiece Indy Ice- I really liked Beaty’s game when I saw him early in the high school season. He is a power guard that handles it well plus he is a good athlete. He will get after it defensively as well. Offensively, he does most of his damage by getting into the lane where he has a nice floater game. He has a chance to be a low-major prospect.
Terell Davis 6’5” SF Lawrence North/Spiece Indy Ice- The first thing that stands out about Davis is his length. He is very long. He has decent handles and can finish with either hand around the rim. He is still developing into a perimeter player after playing in the post earlier in his career.
Kendall Rollins 6’6” SF Pike/Spiece Indy Ice- Rollins didn’t have much production all weekend. He is extremely long, but also extremely thin and it limits what he can do. He has a set-shot from the outside, but his release is good.
Dewayne Barfield 6’2” PG Grand Rapids (MI)/SYF Hoopmatics-Barfield is a really good athlete with great quickness. He can really pressure the ball defensively and gets to the basket whenever he wants. He struggled handling pressure though. He has a lot of bad turnovers passing the ball- just trying to beat the pressure.
Jordan Furlow 6’2” PG Speedway/SYF Hoopmatics- Furlow is a big of a surprise for me. I did not see Speedway this season, but it seems like Furlow has a lot of physical tools to work with as he is a really good athlete. He is one player we will need to see more of.
Trey Shipley 6’3” SG Hauser/SYF Hoopmatics- Shipley was not overly productive in the few games that I saw him this weekend, but he has some natural talent to work with. He is a good athlete that is particularly good on laterally. He also displays a good shot from the outside. I would like to see him be more aggressive off the dribble and step-up his pressure on the defensive end. Those two things could really elevate his game.
Caleb Tanner 5’11” PG Floyd County (WV)/West Virginia Wildcats Select- Shooter: that is everything that you need to know. He hit 12 3’s against Indiana Elite-1 and he hit at least 6 in the championship game. If he is left open, it is going in from 30 feet and closer.
Levi Cook 6’9” C Liberty (WV)/ West Virginia Wildcats Select (2015)- Cook is a huge kid, but moves pretty well for his age and size. He is playing up a year as well. He wasn’t dominating but he played well.
Grant Evans 6’3” SG Wapahani/Fieldhouse Elite 2014- I’m not a huge fan on Evans’ upside. He is a shooter with good length, but he isn’t very consistent for a guy that is just a shooter. He only shot 35% from 3 this high school season. He doesn’t have the ability to create his own shot against good athletes. I would put him on the mid-major stretch status until he becomes a more consistent shooter or adds another dimension to his game.
Malik Coles 6’4” SG Connersville/Grassroots Indiana Uptempo 2014- Coles seems to have a chance to be pretty good. He is very athletic. He is well built plus he can knock down shots when his feet are set. Coles will have to improve his handle and be under control more.
Xavier Ringo 5’9” PG Brownsburg/ Grassroots Indiana Uptempo 2014- Ringo was another player that was really impressive this weekend. He was good in the fall league in October, but I did not see him during the high school season. He is very similar to Zavier Turner in the fact that they are undersized, but very explosive off the dribble with a strong build and the ability to knock down shots from the outside. Ringo played like a mid-major prospect this weekend, that might be a stretch but he was great this weekend.
Cory Smith 6’0” SG North Harrison/ Grassroots Indiana Uptempo 2014- An Indiana pure shooter. He has a quick gun with range passed the volleyball line. He can also play the point a little bit and has okay quickness although he isn’t going to create his own shot very often. He’s on the borderline of D1/D2 right now.
Brandon Tonsoni 6’4” SG Rossville/ Grassroots Indiana Uptempo 2014- Tonsoni is also a shooter but not quite to the level of Smith. Tonsoni has more size though. Again, he is not going to create his own shot either. He will likely end up as a D2/NAIA/D3 prospect.
Collin Barthel 6’6” PF Cathedral/Indiana Elite-1 2014-Barthel battled injuries this season for Cathedral, but I think he has a chance to be pretty good. He is a battler inside and isn’t afraid to be physical. He has to continue to develop to be a low-major prospect.
Eric Davidson 6’0” PG Hamilton Southeastern/ Indiana Elite-1 2014 Davidson is quick, but not really fast. He isn’t going to outrun people on the break, but he can use his quickness to get by his defender in the half-court. He’s smart and uses his body well although he is very thin. The best part of his game is his shooting ability though. He is lights out from the outside and the free-throw line. Low-major prospect but has a chance to be even higher depending on if he grows or puts on muscle.
Jeff Harris 5’10” PG North Central/ Indiana Elite-1 2014 Harris is a Khali El-Amin type of guard. He has a slow release on his spot-up jumper, but gets it off when shooting off the bounce. He finds a way to get into the lane and sees the floor really well. He also usually makes good decisions once he is in the lane.
Adam Kroot 6’4” SG Brebeuf/ Indiana Elite-1 2014 Kroot is a nicely skilled wing that is a shooter first and foremost. He can handle it and get to the basket, but it will be a straight line drive. He isn’t going to shake someone to get to the basket. He is pretty good laterally and anticipates well on the defensive end. Kroot is also an active rebounder. Right now, I think he is on the mid-major/low-major borderline.
Michael Loggan 6’6” SF North Central/ Indiana Elite-1 2014- Much like Adam Kroot with a little bit more size but probably doesn’t move quite as well. He’s smart and active on the defensive end. He is a good shooter and can put it on the floor but isn’t going to create his own shot very often. Low-major prospect.
Kelan Martin 6’5” SF Ballard (KY)/ Indiana Elite-1 2014- Martin’s combination of strength and quickness makes him dominant at this level. He also plays with high energy. He shoots it well off the catch, but forces shots off the dribble because he doesn’t create much separation. He’s definitely a mid-major plus prospect.
Perry Poindexter 6’7” PF North Central/ Indiana Elite-1 2014- Poindexter is a really good athlete and has nice skills, but his high energy level leaves a lot to be desired. The low energy ends up keeping his production down. If he figures it out, he is a high-major prospect but he has a lot of improvement to do.
Makur Puou 6’9” PF Mooseheart Prep (IL)/ Indiana Elite-1 2014- Puou is a great shot blocker. He is more muscular than most of the A-HOPE imports. He is really raw, but he has a nice free-throw stroke.
Jeremie Tyler 6’2” SG Indianapolis Tech/ Indiana Elite-1 2014- Tyler is a player that has the skill set and athleticism to be a dominant player, but it seems like he disappears on the court. When he is in attack mode, he is a mid-major plus prospect. When he is passive and just wants to settle for 3’s, he is a low-major prospect. I wonder how tough and competitive he is when he goes through stretches of being that passive.
Ken Carpenter 6’4” SG Cass Tech (MI)/Michigan Mustangs-Barrett- Carpenter has great length and handles the ball pretty well. When he is handling the ball, it looks like he is all arms and legs. He knocked down 3’s consistently on Sunday although his form is not very conventional.
Justice Green 5’11” PG Carmen Ainsworth (MI)/ Michigan Mustangs-Barrett- Green caught my eye Saturday night against Indiana Elite-Hawk and then he played well on Sunday against Grassroots Indiana. He also did a lot of good things against Indiana Elite-One but he had trouble with turnovers. He is very quick and explosive with the ball in his hands. He can really elevate around the rim and will finish with 2-hands. Green also has the ability to knock down perimeter shots. It looked like he is at least a mid-major prospect off the 3 games that I saw him this weekend.
Tyler Johnson 6’3” SG Howell (MI)/ Michigan Mustangs-Barrett- Johnson is a good shooter with some quickness as well. That isn’t why I’m mentioning him though. He suffered a rough fall against IE-1 and was down on the court for 25 minutes. The paramedics ended up coming, but they did not take him for further observation. After sitting on the bench for about 20 minutes of game-time, he re-entered the game. It was shocking because it was assumed that he had some type of head injury as well as a shoulder injury. The ref actually stopped the game and asked him to leave the game, but the coaches and the player argued that it was just a shoulder injury and that he was fine. The player remained in the game and ended up hitting 2 3’s.
Ray Kasongo 6’9” C East Ridge (KY)/Ohio Basketball Club- Kasongo is a beast of a man. 6-9 and probably 280, but also a good athlete. I didn’t see much of his skills but his size and athleticism was very impressive.
2015
Austin Elmore 6’7” C Evansville North/IE-SWISH- First time seeing Elmore and walked away pretty impressed. He has a nice lefty-stroke from about 17 feet and also has a nice touch around the basket. He moves pretty well for a young big. He has a chance to be pretty good.
Dominick Kavanaugh 6’5” PF Castle/IE-SWISH- Another good looking post player. He had a couple nice finishes inside when I watched him Saturday. He was listed at 6-4 but seemed much bigger.
Addison Wagler 6’5” PF Barr Reeve/IE-SWISH- Wagler is strong and really good around the basket. It seemed like he might be done growing so he will have to continue to develop his face-up game.
Everett Duncan 6’4” SF Evansville Harrison/Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Everett is likely the best pure shooter in the class of 2015 so far. When he spot-up and is left open, it is automatic. He is really impressive for being so young. He also moves well without the ball and will make good cuts to basket if his man falls asleep.
Stanley Duncan 6’4” SF Evansville Harrison/ Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Stanley is the poor man’s version of Everett. He is also a really good shooter, just not quiet to the level of Everett. It seems like Everett does more things other than shooting while Stanley is mainly just a catch and shoot guy.
Hyron Edwards 5’11” PG East Chicago Central/ Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Hyron has really stolen the spotlight this spring. He is a really good passer. He sees the floor and angles that he needs to make the pass that most freshmen don’t see. He is explosive off the dribble and is a great finisher around the rim. Edwards had a nice dunk in transition that he was fouled on, showing he can finish above the rim. His outside shooting is improving, but his form is still more of a set shot and is inconsistent. If he becomes an above average shooter from the outside, he will likely end up the best player in the class.
Logan Kirby 6’5” PF Bloomington South/ Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Kirby looks like he is going to be a pretty good outside shooter. He is a little timid, but moves well laterally for a young big. He has a chance to be a nice stretch 4.
Dante Scott 6’3” SF Culver Academy/ Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Scott is bigger and stronger than most players at this level. Plus, he is a good athlete and plays extremely hard. Put all those things together and you get a lot of production. I’m not sure how high his ceiling his though.
Chandler White 6’1” SG Carroll (Fort Wayne)/ Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- White is a really good athlete that thrives in transition. He is also a good outside shooter. He will need to develop into a point guard in order to be a high-major player as he is likely done growing.
Ryan Cline 6’1” SG Carmel/ Indiana Elite-Diesel-Cline is a shooter first. He is also a good passer that sees the floor very well. He isn’t very explosive off the dribble and doesn’t create his own shot going to the basket very often. He did show off a nice step-back game though. He’s got a chance to be really good once he develops a little bit more.
Keegan Culp 6’5” SF Hamilton Southeastern/ Indiana Elite-Diesel-Culp is a shooter with good size for his age. He is really a stretch 4 right now, but he might be done growing. He moves well without the ball and he rebounds well. He has a quick release on his shot.
Brandon Jonas 6’3” SF New Palestine/ Indiana Elite-Diesel- Jonas is a lot like Dante Scott in the fact that he is bigger and stronger than a lot of the players he is facing right now. His strength and athleticism advantage leads to him being very productive at this age, but down the road his production might fall off.
Bryce Moore 6’2” PG Park Tudor/ Indiana Elite-Diesel- I haven’t seen much of Moore, but he left a good first impression on me this weekend. He has good quickness and is pretty strong. He handles the ball well and is crafty off the dribble with hesitation moves. It seems like he could be pretty tough down the road.
Dan Werner 6’3” SF Mount Vernon/Indiana Elite-Diesel Werner is intriguing. He handles the ball pretty well and is a really good mid-range shooter. Plus he is strong and a good athlete. I’m interested to see how his development goes. He has a chance to be good.
Josh Speidel 6’7” PF Columbus North/Indiana Elite-Orange- Speidel isn’t an explosive athlete, but he is skilled. He shoots it very well and has good footwork. He loves to reverse pivot from 17 feet and shoot over defenders. He handles the ball well. To be high-major, he will need to continue to grow.
Johnny Jager 5’11” PG Bloomington South/Indiana Elite-Orange- Jager impressed me this high school season with Bloomington South. He is crafty with the ball using hesitation moves and that stuff to get by defenders. He is also a really good shooter. 5-11 is probably a stretch and I’m not sure if he is going to grow much more or not. Overall, I like his game though.
Josh Martindale 6’5” PF Bloomington South/Indiana Elite-Orange-Martindale seems to be a pretty good athlete that plays with energy. We didn’t get a great look at him this weekend and will track him down the road.
Adam Preda 6’2” SG Decatur Central/ Indiana Elite-Orange- First time seeing Preda in awhile. He has a good handle and can shake defenders a little bit. He is mainly a shooter though with good size for his age but he might be done growing. {/iACL}
