Jeff Schoenle presents Indiana Basketball Source's Week In Preview segment. It looks at the top ten match ups from around the state for the week of December 15-20. All times listed are eastern.
Tuesday December 16
Chesterton at East Chicago Central 8:30pm
Chris Palombizio had a double double in Chesterton's win over Gary Roosevelt and is playing well early in the season, but the player making waves in this matchup is ECC junior wing Damien Jefferson, who has put up some big scoring marks already this season. Chesterton will also have to control senior point guard Hyron Edwards of ECC.
Scecina at Roncalli 7:30pm
Scecina took an early stumble against Crispus Attucks, but their three wins have come by an average of 27 points per game. Roncalli features senior guard Jimmy King, who is averaging over 20 points a night, but needs to find a consistent second option. Roncalli will want to slow the tempo down while Scecina is more comfortable playing quick.
Yorktown vs. Liberty Christian (Anderson U.) 7:30pm
Senior guard Chris Nunn went for 37 in an overtime win over Ft. Wayne Northrop last weekend. He's far from a one man band, as Liberty Christian is scoring nearly 90 points per outing. Yorktown is 3-1 and led by a trio of seniors in guard Caleb Morey, guard Riley Miller, and forward Riley Neal, all who average in double figures.
Marian has Princeton commit and Junior All-Star Devin Cannady in the backcourt, and he is capable of putting up points in bunches, as evidenced by his 36 point outing against Bishop Luers earlier this month. Washington has senior forward Quincy Johnson and junior guards Anthony Brazier and Lorenzo Glass, all of whom bring toughness and intensity. A Glass-Cannady matchup would be worth the price of admission.
Friday December 19
Carroll (Allen) at Homestead 7:30
In a game that could eventually decide the NHC title, undefeated Carroll travels to the southwest side of Fort Wayne to take on 6-1 Homestead. Carroll is led by 6'1 Toledo signee Chandler White and 6'6 junior Kyle Mallers, while Homestead has gotten off to a hot start thanks to senior forward Caleb Swanigan and senior point guard Jordan Geist. In a game that might come down to the play of the supporting cast, look for Carroll's Jeremy Kalonji and Homestead's Tahj Curry to step up and make plays.
Brownsburg at Avon 7:30pm
KJ Walton is putting up some ridiculous point totals this year is leading Brownsburg to a 4-1 mark. The senior shooting guard is averaging around 30 a night, but he's not the only big time scorer in this matchup. Brandon Peters, a 6'5 wing from Avon, has put up some impressive numbers of his own, including going for 35 against Terre Haute South. The junior would be getting more attention for basketball if he wasn't a highly coveted BCS level quarterback prospect. Senior forward Logan White and junior guard Jack McCue flank Peters.
Lawrence North at Guerin Catholic 7:30pm
Lawrence North made a big statement Wednesday by beating rival Lawrence Central by 18, and leading the way is senior guard Pat Bacon. He is complimented by freshmen Antwaan Cushingberry and Kevin Easley. They face a tall order in stopping Lehigh signee and walking double double machine Matt Holba and junior sharpshooter Christian Munson and the 3A #1 Golden Eagles of Guerin, who come into the week at 6-0.
Saturday December 20
Arsenal Tech at Snider 6:30pm
CJ Walker has carried the surprise Tech a Titans so far this year, and the 2016 Purdue commit is scoring at a 23.5 per game clip. Senior wing Donte Gladney has embraced an increased role, but they face a tall task, literally, in the Snider frontcourt. The Panthers boast 6'6 senior Devlyn Williams and 6'9 sophomore Malik Williams, as well as 6'7 senior Devon Tennant. Arsenal Tech has the backcourt advantage, but will that overcome the size and power of Snider's inside game?
Carmel at New Albany 7:30pm
Carmel travels down I-65 to take on one of southeast Indiana's best programs in New Albany. Purdue signee Ryan Cline is looking to put his Greyhounds back on the winning track after losing to North Central this past Friday. New Albany enters the week at 5-0, and feature stud freshman wing Romeo Langford, who has lived up to the hype so far this season. This has the potential to be one of the best out-of-region match ups this year in the state.
Munster at Penn 7:30pm
Nate Miller and Billy Doslak led Penn to a victory over FW South Side this past weekend, and they welcome Munster to north central Indiana in a 4A matchup. Munster stumbled against East Chicago Central and will face Penn in their third game of the week, following contests against Lake Central and Crown Point. Both teams enter the week at 4-1.
