IHSAA State Champion Picks...A Little Late

I forgot to post my IHSAA boys basketball tournament champions for each class last week. You can check out the sectional recap here of my picks versus the actual winner of each sectional. I went 39-25 at predicting the sectional champs...not bad, but not great. My regional selections can be found HERE.

Now for my state champions...

4A

Munster- I have the match-up of Munster and North Central in the championship game. I would like my chances for this to hold true if it weren't for the D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera suspension for the first game of regional play. That suspension is a result of the fight that occurred between Lawrence North and North Central Friday night. North Central already lost to Pike in the county tournament with D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera in action. It will be an uphill fight without one of the best players in the state.

Munster hasn't been very impressive thus far in the tournament so I have worries about them making it as well.  Munster has the advantage of playing in a weaker regional though. Merrillville was upset by Valparaiso and Concord beat Warsaw. So, the road for Joe Crisman and Munster is much easier than North Central's.

3A

Washington- No surprise here, Washington has Cody Zeller and no one else does. I have the 3A state title game being between Washington and Concordia. Concordia didn't get out of sectional play though. The Culver Academies/Gary Wallace game could be a good one. Washington plays Evansville Bosse in the first game of regionals. Bosse is led by freshmen Jaquan Lyle, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Xavier.

Another possible match-up that could be extremely intriquing is Washington against Roncalli. Roncalli has a big, talented, balanced team that could give Washington a lot of problems.

2A

Bishop Noll- This has the potential to be the best 2A state tournament...maybe ever. I predict Bishop Noll to play Park Tudor in the state finals. Bishop Noll is undefeated on the season and have a host of potential D1 players in Adonis Filer, Milos Kostic, Larry Crisler, and Ronnye Beamon. Park Tudor was the state runner-up last season behind the efforts of Yogi Ferrell. Ferrell has more talent around him this year. This would be a great game if it works out this way.

1A

Bowman Academy- My state champion pick didn't get out of sectionals...ouch. Morgan Township pulled one of the biggest upsets in the state tournament in sometime. It is hard to get huge upsets in class basketball since you don't have large schools playing tiny schools. The really bad news for me is that my runner-up was also eliminated in sectional play...Evansville Day. Day lost to Wood Memorial in overtime.

It seems like 1A is now wide open with Bowman Academy out of the tournament. I like the winner of the Triton regional to have a great chance at winning the whole thing. The Triton regional includes Morgan Township, Triton, Canterbury, and Pioneer. I also like Lafayette Central Catholic's chances as well as North Daviess.
