INDIANAPOLIS- This was our first look at both teams this season. Chatard had many players in the fall league though. Chatard has a 1-2 punch of Greg Gardner (2012) and Joe Fagan (2013). Gardner is headed to D2 Alabama-Huntsville while Fagan has an offer from Duquesne and is receiving D1 interest from Bucknell, Cornell, American, Bowling Green, Brown, Wright State, IPFW, IUPUI, Western Michigan and Gardner-Webb.
The first half was painful to watch. Both teams had a bunch of turnovers plus poor shooting. Then when you throw in a ton of soft whistles the game was going at a snail’s pace. That might be disrespectful to a snail though.
Gardner had a decent first half because he does so many things well. He had 7 points and 8 rebounds through 16 minutes of play. Fagan struggled in the first quarter, but got things going in the second. He scored 10 of Chatard’s 12 points in the second.
The pace picked up significantly right away in the third quarter. Chatard increased their energy and Arlington started to play better as well. Fagan scored another 10 points in the quarter. He attacked the rim off a shot fake two times in a row; both resulted in Arlington fouls as Fagan tried to finish above the rim.
Arlington’s Demetrius Anderson played much better in the second half after struggling in the first. Anderson got to the line 15 times in the game. Unfortunately for Arlington, he only hit 8 of them.
Gardner iced the game for Chatard from the line down the stretch. He was 8 of 8 in the second half from the line as Chatard walked away with a 60-44 win.
Chatard—9 12 22 16
Arlington—9 8 14 13
Chatard-Gardner 21pts, 11rebs, 5 steals, Fagan 20pts 5rebs, Aaron Hepp 11pts, Michael Hackney 2pts, 6rebs
Arlington-Anderson 16pts, Gerron Ross 8pts, Darren Montgomery 9pts

Chatard
Joe Fagan 6’4” SF 2013 Fagan impressed me with his lateral quickness tonight. Arlington doesn’t have the best players, but their guards are quick and Fagan did a great job staying in front of them. As I mentioned in the article, he tried two baseline drive dunks. He was fouled, but he was plenty high enough to throw both down. Fagan is also a good outside shooter. He isn’t automatic, but he is definitely above average. My biggest concern about his game is that he doesn’t get much off pure drives. He is smart enough to use shot fakes to get his defender in the air and then attacks. I have him on the MM-/LM+ borderline because of that. If he proved that he can get to the basket consistently against D1 athletes then he would be a no doubt mid-major player.
Stan Jackson 5’10” PG 2014 Jackson’s offensive game needs a lot of work but he flat out gets after it defensively. He has great quickness and anticipates very well. With him at Chatard, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be a very good football player. If he wants to play college basketball, his full offensive skill set will have to improve.
Delano Coffey 5’9” PG 2015 Coffey is a good prospect for a freshman. He played well in the fall league against tough upper classmen. He didn’t get a ton of minutes tonight, but he was solid in his limited minutes. Growing a couple of inches would certainly help his game and recruiting stock.
Arlington
Demetrius Anderson 6’0” SG 2013 Anderson did a great job getting to the lane and drawing fouls with his quickness. Quickness and athleticism is no problem for him. His shooting was very inconsistent though. He also seemed taller than 6’ but maybe that is because he is very long. He has a chance, but his shooting will need to improve drastically. {/iACL}
