INDIANAPOLIS- Roncalli entered the match-up with Warren Central with a 9-0 record. Although Roncalli hasn’t played the toughest schedule so far, they do have impressive wins over Park Tudor and Brebeuf. Warren Central is having a very solid year so far as well. They recently won the Marion tournament; where they beat Munster and Bowman Academy.
The first half was a struggle offensively for both teams. There were almost as many turnovers (22) as there were points (25). Roncalli held Warren Central to just two points in the second quarter. Despite the lack of offense for Warren, Roncalli held just a 3 point halftime advantage.
The second half was more like what most people would have expected from the start. Both teams were still playing hard, tough defense but the offenses started to handle it a little bit better. Bradley Fey and David Heckman played extremely well for Roncalli in the third. Fey is a pass first point guard that kept finding Heckman. Devin Davis was strong for Warren Central. The Indiana University-bound junior started to rebound and attack the basket offensively more aggressively in the third quarter.
The pace slowed considerably in the fourth quarter. Fey came up with a couple of big baskets for Roncalli down the stretch. It was Fey’s feed to Heckman with 14 seconds left that led to the game-tying field goal. Devon Hawkins had a good look for the game winner, but it missed and time expired during the rebound.
One unlikely scoring source for Warren Central was senior Charlie Dant. Dant scored 12 points in the second half and overtime. Devin Davis was also big for Warren Central in the overtime. He scored 5 points in the extra time. Ryan Weber and Fey fouled out during the overtime for Roncalli which put them in a tough spot.
Warren Central walked away with 55-49 victory. Davis led WC with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals although he also had 7 turnovers. David Heckman finished with 21 points to lead Roncalli.
Warren Central 9 2 17 13 14

Roncalli (Weber is committed to Youngstown State and Heckman is committed to Lewis)
Bradley Fey 5’11 PG 2012 I liked Fey when I went to Roncalli’s open gym in the fall and he was impressive especially in the second half tonight. He is always looking to pass, but he can score when he needs to. He uses hesitation moves extremely well to get by quicker defenders. D2/NAIA/D3 programs that need a smart, tough point guard should look into Fey.
Michael Clements 6’7 PF 2013 Clements showed promise last season and in AAU, but I haven’t seen much of his game. Tonight was a good test as he went against two D1 bigs in Devin Davis and Brent Calhoun. Clements played in too much of a hurry and that led to turnovers, but he is a good athlete with explosiveness. He does need some work on his finishes especially in traffic against athletic bigs like Davis. He is likely a D2/NAIA prospect at this point, but he has the tools to be a low-major D1 player if he really works on his game.
Cole Toner 6’7 PF 2012 First time seeing this big fella. He’s physical and seems pretty skilled. First impression is that he could be a nice late addition for D2/NAIA programs looking for a big.
Warren Central (Davis is committed to IU and Brent Calhoun is committed to Detroit)
Jordan Garnett 6’5 PF 2014 Jordan didn’t have a very big game tonight. He gets most of his production because of his effort and athleticism. Against the big front line of Roncalli, he wasn’t able to use his jumping ability much. If he develops perimeter skills, he can be a D1 player. He has a lot of work to do though.
Jamal Bridges 6’2 SG 2013 Bridges is instant offensive for Warren off the bench. He is very quick and athletic but will get out of control. He has a chance to be a D2/NAIA prospect.
Devon Hawkins 5’5 PG 2014 Hawkins was in the starting line-up tonight and had a very good second half. His height is a weakness. He can shoot it from the outside and is quick though. {/iACL}
