BLOOMINGTON- The adidas May Classic took place May 13th through May 15th. It is a great event annually and this year was no different. Some of the top programs that attended the event were Indiana Elite, Eric Gordon All-Stars, Meanstreets, Wisconsin Playground Warriors, Michigan Mustangs, and Derrick Rose.
Here is a look at some of the 2012 players that were at the adidas May Classic.

Glenn Robinson III 6’6 SF Lake Central
The Michigan-commit has been the most consistent player all spring for SYF, which includes many 2011 players like Adonis Filer, Jeremiah Jones, Markus Crider, and ex-2011 member Mitch McGary. He has done it with his motor on the glass and his ability to finish against contact. Robinson has probably grown about 2 inches since last summer. He has gone from finishing at the rim to finishing all plays above the rim. Michigan definitely got a good one in Robinson.
Jeremiah Jones 6’3 SG Merrillville (2011)
Jones has had a very good spring. He was pretty much set to attend Maine Central Institute next year but now with Shelvin Mack leaving for the NBA, Butler has joined the picture. Jones would be a perfect replacement for Mack. He likely won’t step in as a freshman and fill Mack’s shoes, but down the road he could be a very solid contributor.
Kellon Thomas 5’11 PG Southport
Thomas was coming off a huge game where he scored 38 points against Spiece Indy Heat at the Run N Slam. I didn’t see much of that game. I just caught the final minutes. Thomas is a strong guard that wants to get to the rim. The defender’s quickness bothers Thomas more than the defender’s strength. That’s one reason why he was pretty ineffective against SYF. Adonis Filer guarded him and did a good job of keeping him out of the lane. When Thomas did get to the lane, Mitch McGary was there to block or change his shot. Thomas was held to 10 or 12 points in SYF’s blow out win.
His outside shot is very inconsistent as it has always been one of his weaknesses. Thomas also doesn’t do a very good job of getting to the lane to set-up teammates. When he gets to the lane, he is looking to score. It leads to a lot of forced shots.
The Mid-Major level where he already has a bunch of offers is the perfect level for him.
Jared Drew 6’6 SF Cathedral
Drew has all the tools to be a very good college player. The thing that scares me is that I have never seen Drew have a big game against a high level player or an elite level team. All of the big games that I have seen him have were against mediocre or poor players/teams.
MM/MM- is where I rank him because he hasn’t proven he can produce against top talent. He has a ton of upside, but he has had the same upside for 3 years. Drew has certainly improved in the last few years, but I would like to see a large jump in improvement before I’d recommend him to a top MM program.
Jacobby Bledsoe 5’11 PG Hamilton Southeastern
We have never been very high on Bledsoe. He just had too many weaknesses without much upside. We were starting to increase our grade on Bledsoe, but this weekend was not good for Bledsoe. He looks pretty good when he is knocking down outside shots as most players do. Lately, he had been shooting really well. This weekend he was off in a big way and to make it worse he takes a lot of bad shots especially when you consider he has Gary Harris on his team.
He is going to struggle to defend at the next level because he is so small. Not only is he short…5’11 is probably a stretch, but he is also pretty thin. He is pretty good laterally though so that will help things.
I just can’t see him being evaluated higher than LM/LM-.
Damon Brown 6’0 PG Bloomington North
I haven’t seen as much of Brown as I would like. I think he is a very steady/good point guard. Quick, but not extra gear quickness. He doesn’t do any one thing great, but he just does most things well. Pretty strong for a point guard that shoots it decently from the outside.
He’s a LM/LM- prospect.
Kyle Wuest 6’2 SG Edinburgh
Wuest is another LM/LM- prospect. He is more of a SG than a PG but can handle the ball a bit. He is a solid athlete, but not great laterally. Wuest shoots it well off the dribble and the catch. I’m not sure he is quite a D1 prospect but will be a very good D2/NAIA prospect.
Steven Davis 6’6 PF Warren Central-JUCO prospect
Davis did not play varsity this year for Warren Central. I’m guessing it is a grade issue, but he has the talent to be a force. He is an extremely good athlete that jumps out of the gym. He has enough of a skill set to put the ball on the floor from the wing, drive baseline, and dunk two-handed over a guy like he did Friday night. He is very raw and add that to grade issues, it seems like he is a JUCO candidate.
Jordan Burton 6’7 PF Edinburgh
Burton has gotten some D1 interest, but I don’t see any way possible that he can play at the D1 level. He is not a very good athlete especially in terms of explosiveness. He plays below the rim and doesn’t play with a high motor. Burton’s skill set is very suspect.
He might be able to be effective at the D2/NAIA level but he will need to improve to contribute to good programs at that level.
Edward Seay 6’8 PF Merrillville
First time seeing Edward Seay this spring. I saw him twice during the high school season and he was very underwhelming in both games. He just hasn’t improved much in his high school career. That is really bad when you take in the fact that he wasn’t dominating when he had a big height advantage on everyone as a freshman and sophomore.
T.J. Lux is the new head coach at Merrillville. Lux is the career leader at Northern Illinois in points and rebounds. He has been on staff for Seay’s career though. You would expect Seay would be able to improve immensely with Lux working with him. It just hasn’t happened for one reason or another.
Seay is a LM- at this point. D2/NAIA will likely be the best fit for him although I assume he thinks he will end up at a D1 program.
