The adidas Invitational has a strong field lined up in the 2013 age group especially in terms of Indiana club teams. The junior-to-be out of state group isn’t as strong as the senior-to-be. The Atlanta Celtics, DC Assault, Michigan Mustangs, and Ohio Basketball Club are represented though.
Here is a closer look at the Indiana teams that will be competing in the adidas Invitational.

Eric Gordon All-Stars are a wing loaded team with three players already committed. Collin Hartman and Devin Davis are committed to Indiana while Basil Smotherman is headed to Purdue. Other high-major prospects on the roster are V.J. Beachem and Zak Irvin. Irvin has a bunch of offers from high-majors while Beachem has been undervalued to this point. Beachem recently picked up a Butler offer to go with a Purdue offer he picked up a year ago. Zavier Turner had a great spring and picked up offers from Evansville, St. Louis, Georgia State, and Loyola plus he has high-major interest. David Hill has an offer from Evansville as well.

Indiana Elite South is coached by former D1 head coach Dan Dakich. Mark Donnal was the most sought after recruit until he committed to Michigan on June 15th. Troy Spears is the next best prospect on the roster. Spears is a 2014 player but has shown a more versatile skill set this spring. It is very possible that Spears is done growing so he will need to develop into a SG to be a high-major prospect. Blake Simmons and Franko House are the next best prospects. Simmons is the son of Evansville head coach Marty Simmons. He’s not a great athlete but plays the game like a coach’s son. House is a load of a player but very athletic for his size. House picked up an offer from Western Michigan during June. He is an undersized power forward that gets most of his points in the paint but also has a nice mid-range game.

Indiana Elite Stars have a nice team with a lot of mid-major and low-major prospects. Alex Etherington is probably the best prospect on the team but he has been out since February after being undercut on a dunk. He has had some interest from schools such as Clemson, Ball State, Wright State, and Miami (OH). Mike Crawford is the next best prospect. Crawford is a 6’5” wing with better than expected athleticism. He can always hit the open outside shot. He’s a bit of a sleeper because he plays golf and misses some tournaments for that. Joe Fagan, Mo Evans, and John McCloud are in the next level of prospects. All of them are in the LM+/MM- range right now. Dan Scofield is a big body and pretty skilled but athleticism is not very high. He has a chance to be a low-major player though.

Martin’s Wolverines are a team with Indiana and Ohio players. Mav Morgan is likely the best prospect. He is a 6’10 center from Ohio who is extremely strong for a player his age and size. He doesn’t move great, but can move a little bit. Skill set needs to continue to develop to be a high-major player. Jaylon Brown is the next best prospect. I’ve liked his game for a year now. Brown is an amazing athlete with skills to go with it. He needs to become more of a point guard and shot it better from the outside. His athleticism would allow him to play high-major if those things happen though. Dontonio Wingfield is a nice prospect from Ohio. Good athlete and seems pretty skill along with nice size for a wing player. Cole Murray is primarily an outside shooter, but a good one. If his game expands to where he can get to the basket and finish plus prove he can defend on the perimeter, he will be a mid-major candidate.

MBA Select features Demetrius Jackson. There is a rumor that Jackson will play with Indiana Elite-South in July but I haven’t heard the details on that. It might be a situation where he plays with them if MBA isn’t in a tournament at the time.

MeanStreets 2014 appear to be playing up unless they were just placed in the wrong age group. They certainly have the talent to play up. Drake Harris is a big-time prospect. Harris is a very good athlete and very skilled. Tyler Wideman is another high-major prospect. Wideman is 6’7 and 240 pounds. Skill set and athleticism need to improve. Jaraan Lands is another possible high-major prospect. 6’5 and strong plus Lands is a good shooter. Justin King and DaRohn Scott are two players that aren’t extremely skilled now but have potential to be big-time prospects.
