This game featured some great guards. Mishawaka Marian’s Demetrius Jackson (Notre Dame), Proviso East’s Sterling Brown (SMU) and Paris Lee (Illinois State) have already made their college decisions. A few others will end up at the D1 level down the road.
Proviso East established pressure and an up-tempo pace right from the start. They consistently had five athletic, talented guards on the floor. Proviso East pressed and trapped throughout the game without wearing down because of their depth.
Proviso East held a seven point lead after one quarter, and would continue to build on it. Demetrius Jackson was the only Marian player that showed the ability to play against Proviso’s pressure. Devin Cannady had 8 points in the first quarter, but then was quiet the rest of the game for Marian.
Proviso East guards Jevon Carter and Sterling Brown were very efficient. They combined for 36 points on 20 shots from the field. Proviso East cruised to an 82-61 victory. Demetrius Jackson finished with 24 points in the loss. Paris Lee added 10 points for Proviso East.
Proviso East 26 14 26 16---82
Marian 19 10 15 17---61
